BACKGROUND: Systemic sclerosis is a disease of unknown etiology for which no specific treatment is effective. Pulse therapy with corticosteroids has been tried for various autoimmune disorders with minimal side effects. We undertook this study to determine the efficacy of dexamethasone pulse therapy in progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS).
METHODS: Five women with PSS between the ages 30 and 60 years, received 100 mg dexamethasone in 500 mL of 5% dextrose by slow intravenous infusion over 3 hours for 3 consecutive days, once a month.

Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1), Watson syndrome (WS), and Noonan syndrome (NS) show some overlap in clinical manifestations. In addition, WS has been shown to be linked to markers flanking the NF1 locus and a deletion at the NF1 locus demonstrated in a WS patient. This suggests either that WS and NF1 are allelic or that phenotypes arise from mutations in very closely linked genes. We studied the reactivity of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) 17.13 and 63.12 with normal and diseased human oral mucosa by means of the immunoperoxidase technique. In order to determine the frequency and characterization of hypopigmentation in Prader-Labhart-Willi syndrome (PLWS), clinical, cytogenetic and biochemical findings are reported in 56 PLWS individuals. One hundred and thirty nine patients with histologically proven hepatocellular carcinoma (HC) were admitted to the Uganda Cancer Institute for treatment. The patients were considerably younger and seemed to have more advanced disease than HC patients in Europe and in North America. AIM: To examine the role of immune, biochemical and hormonal factors in the regulation of melanogenesis in patients with chromatopathy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We observed 226 patients with various forms dyschromia skin. Age of the patients was in the range of 16 to 55 years. The frequency of females (n = 157) prevailed over the male sex (n = 69) 2,3 times. The disease duration ranged from 3 weeks to 12 years. INTRODUCTION: Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) is a rare inflammatory disease, generally of unknown aetiology, affecting the choriocapillaris, the pigment epithelium and the outer retina. Two patients with choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) developed a retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) tear following intravitreal injection of ranibizumab. Ceramic veneers are extremely popular and have been used for many years. In spite of their phenomenal success, they offer numerous challenges during service. In this column, I have identified and discussed several degenerative situations commonly observed, and I have described methods of preventing or reducing the problems. When properly placed, ceramic veneers are among the most beautiful and long-lasting of all dental restorations.
