The development of cutaneous proliferative lesions following renal transplantation has been well documented in the literature. Those lesions most commonly seen include viral warts, actinic keratoses and basal-cell and squamous-cell carcinomata. More recently it has been suggested that melanocyte proliferation, both benign and malignant, may follow renal transplantation, probably as a result of immunosuppression. We report the case of an identical twin who developed numerous benign melanocytic naevi following renal transplantation; no such proliferation of naevi occurred in his identical siblin

A case of infiltrating breast carcinoma presenting as a pigmented lesion of the areola and nipple is described. The pigmentation was found to be primarily due to interspersed melanocytes and melanophages within the tumor. The histologic criteria and the differential immunohistochemical staining characteristics of melanoma and breast carcinoma are presented. Also emphasized is the difficulty in differentiating pagetoid malignant melanoma and epidermotrophic breast carcinoma.

We report an unusual case of development of upper eyelid depigmentation in a child 4 months following corticosteroid injection of a periocular capillary hemangioma. Depigmentation has been described with local steroid injections for other dermatologic conditions, but has not been reported previously with treatment of infantile ocular adnexal hemangiomas.

Dyskeratosis congenita is a rare hereditary disease which usually manifests with skin hyperpigmentation, nail dystrophy, and leukoplakia of the mucous membrane (triad). This report describes a six-year-old boy with severe aplastic anemia who was later diagnosed to have dyskeratosis congenita. His unusual presentation was pancytopenia followed by leukoplakia of the tongue, hyperpigmentation of the skin and dystrophy of the nails. Treatment with horse anti-human lymphocyte immunoglobulin (ALG) for his aplastic anemia was not effective.

Dermatological practice in Martinique frequently encounters a bizarre skin condition presenting as a progressive and extensive hypomelanosis on the back. The course of this disorder is highly characteristic: it occurs mainly in females from 18-25 years of age, with a progressive development of round, pale, coalescent macules on the back and sometimes on the abdomen. This disease, which does not respond to therapy, spontaneously regresses within 3 to 4 years. Decreased epidermal melanin is the only histological feature. Ultrastructural examination of two cases found that the macular lesions wer

This report describes a 13-year-old girl who presented with angioid streaks associated with pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE). Extensive retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) mottling, known as peau d'orange, characteristic of PXE, was also noted. The potential complication of choroidal neovascularization is described. Physicians should be aware that angioid streaks and their potentially sight-threatening complications can occur in this age group.

One hundred and three patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma responded to an invitation to attend a dermatology outpatient clinic. All patients with a family history of melanoma, a history of multiple melanomas, or histological evidence of a dysplastic naevus that was associated with their melanoma were invited. A random sample of other patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma was also invited to attend. First-degree relatives of patients with the dysplastic naevus syndrome (DNS) were invited for a similar examination. DNS was found in 27% of the patients with a family history of melanom

Apart from the obligatory symptoms of Klippel-Feil syndrome (short neck, low hairline on nape, limited rotation of the head) many other so-called facultative dysraphic impairments may be found. The most common is spina bifida, which is the prototype of the "dysraphia syndrome". Therefore, Klippel-Feil syndrome belongs to a heredo-degenerative constitution type of "status dysraphicus".

A 20-year-old white woman had extensive surgery for "metastatic melanoma" of the dorsum of the right foot and surgical removal of two regional inguinal lymph nodes. Review of the histopathological sections ten years later revealed all three lesions to be cellular blue nevi. Cellular blue nevi may resemble melanoma histologically and, relative to their incidence, are quite frequently found in lymph nodes. Thus they may present a uniquely challenging differential diagnosis with metastatic melanoma.

Acquired reticulate pigmentation of the flexures developed in ten patients. Additional features in some cases were pitted scars near the angles of the mouth and scattered dark comedone-like lesions on the neck (dark dot follicles). The disease affects both sexes, usually develops in early adult life, and is slowly progressive. The abnormality is characterized by pigmented filiform epidermal downgrowths closely resembling an adenoid seborrheic wart, but similar proliferations also develop around the variably dilated pilosebaceous follicles. The occurence of the anomaly in siblings and in mother
