OBJECTIVE: To restore physiological erection by performing microsurgical penile revascularization.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The records of 21 patients with pure arteriogenic impotence were reviewed. Thirteen patients with localized obstruction of the internal pudendal or common penile artery underwent a Michal II arterio-arterial penile revascularization. Multiple system atrophy is a disorder characterized by progressive neuronal atrophy at certain sites of the central nervous system, several of which are important in the control of urogenital function. The neuro-urological features of 62 patients with this condition are described. The effect of intracavernous injection of papaverine (ICIP) has been investigated in 45 men: 6 normally potent volunteers, 10 psychogenic, and 29 organic impotent males. Prosthesis surgery for management of erectile impotence has become an increasingly important aspect of urology. The inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) provides the impotent patient with a controllable, natural-appearing and physiologically functional penis. Major modifications in the prosthesis and in the surgical implantation technique have been made since its initial introduction. In this article we present a histologic review of the IPP and our ten-year experience with it.
