Spinal posture affects how individuals function from a manual wheelchair. There is a need to directly quantify spinal posture in this population to ultimately improve function. Thirty-two patients undergoing uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) for snoring have been studied prospectively using objective measurement of snoring levels. A significant reduction was found, especially in the supine posture. The quantitative reduction was small and correlations between subjective and objective changes in snoring volume were weak.

We report three patients in whom carpal tunnel syndrome was due to neurapraxis as a consequence of unusual sleep postures enabled by their benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS). A fourth patient also had bilateral sensory sciatic neuropathy and a common peroneal palsy, similarly due to regularly adopted unusual postures. Recognition of such cause-effect mechanisms and their simple solution in BJHS should obviate needless investigation and unnecessary surgery.

Camptocormia is a rare low-back disorder involving an abnormal posture of extreme forward flexion. Most reports of camptocormia were of male military recruits during World Wars I and II. The differential diagnosis of the postural deformity, the psychologic formulation of camptocormia as a conversion disorder, and the treatments that have been used are reviewed. An unusual case of camptocormia in a female is presented to illustrate one psychologic basis and one form of effective treatment of this disorder.

Over a 25-year period, 1855 patients have been subjected to a variety of common orthopaedic procedures for correction of disabling postures resulting from spastic hemiplegia. A widely applicable rationale for surgical correction of these postures has been slowly established over these years of clinical research. These methods are submitted in this review article with the hope that others will espouse, criticize and modify them, towards a better understanding of this complex kinetic disorder.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to characterize the posturographic features of elderly patients newly diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) who initially presented with dizziness.

Five patients presented with symptoms related directly to pressure effects from their cavum septum pellucidum with persistent or intermittent obstructive hydrocephalus. The most characteristic presenting symptoms were intermittent postural headache and postural loss of consciousness. If cysts of the cavum septum pellucidum are symptomatic and stereotactic cyst puncture or fenestration are ineffective, ventriculoperitoneal shunting should be carried out before resorting to more radical excision of the cyst.

The aim of the study was to evaluate eight questions concerning physical loads, used in public health questionnaires. Working women and men (203) completed a self-administered questionnaire twice, following a test-retest method. The questions were also validated with a structured interview.
