The influence of SO2 on the performance of Ag-Pd/Al2O3 for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with C2H5OH was investigated experimentally. The activity test results suggest that Ag-Pd/Al203 shows a small activity loss in the presence of SO2 when using C2H5OH as a reductant. In situ DRIFTS spectra show that the activity loss originates from the formation of surface sulphate species on the Ag-Pd/Al2O3. Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were assessed in 27 women affected by uterine leiomyoma. Tissue samples obtained during surgery were silver-stained according to the method of Ploton et al. Aspirations of breast lesions from 57 patients were studied by evaluating Grimelius-stained smears in order to determine the cytologic features of argyrophilic carcinoma and the reliability of argyrophilia as a characteristic of malignancy. The metalophil method for the demonstration of histiocytes was applied to 108 non-Hodgkin lymphomas diagnosed according to the Kiel classification. In 41 lymphomas the presence of histiocytes was assessed with the aid of the non-specific esterase reaction. The same procedures were performed on 12 lymph nodes with follicular hyperplasia and/or sinus histiocytosis. The number of histiocytes was estimated and graded from 0 to 3. A 72-year-old female operated for ascending colon cancer was histologically diagnosed as having co-existing goblet cell-like carcinoid and rosette-forming carcinoid. The tumor cells were positive for the argyrophil reaction, but negative for the argentaffin reaction. A few tumor cells had both argyrophil granules and sulfated acid mucin in their cytoplasm. Despite combination chemotherapy she expired 10 months after the operation. Autopsy revealed local recurrence and metastases to the liver, lung, pancreas, left adrenal and many lymph nodes.
