A comprehensive study in 165 women has employed cytologic, colposcopic and histologic evaluation. Flat cervical condylomas were identified in 27 women (mean age, 29 years). Over 50% of these condylomas coexisted with dysplasia of various severity and 2 condylomas with squamous cell carcinoma in situ. The most reliable diagnostic techniques for flat condylomas are cytologic and histologic tests of selectively excised tissue samples.

The leukemic promyelocytes in 37 cases of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APML; FAB, M3) were examined for their cytochemical property. Thirty-two cases (86%) showed strong myeloperoxidase (MPO), chloroacetate esterase (Es-chl) and Sudan black B (SBB) positivity, suggesting a pure neutrophilic differentiation of the leukemic cells. Nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NORs) were studied in patients with cervical precancerous and cancerous lesions along with controls. The data revealed a statistically significant decrease of Ag-NORs in cancer patients, as well as in women with severe precancerous lesions as compared with controls. A similar decrease in the amount of Ag-staining was also observed in both cancer and severe dysplasia cases. The study suggests a possible relationship of Ag-NOR activity to malignancy.

A monoclonal antibody raised to gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) has been compared with conventional rabbit and guinea-pig antisera to GIP. Four staining methods were tested and of these the peroxidase antiperoxidase (PAP) method proved to give the best results with both the mouse and rabbit antibodies.
