Left ventricular outpouchings are increasingly detected on cardiovascular imaging. Herein, we describe the case of a 45-year-old man who underwent noncardiac preoperative imaging and was found to have an asymptomatic left ventricular outpouching. Multiple forms of surgical treatment exist for Zenker's diverticulum. Appropriate treatment needs to be tailored based on the needs of the patient and the resources and skills of the surgeon. From 1981 to 1989 seventeen cases of pediatric patients with urachal remnants have been treated at the Fukuoka Municipal Children's Hospital (2 patent urachus, 5 urachal cyst, 9 urachal sinus, 1 urachal diverticulum). A total of 84 operations (64 endoscopic myotomies and 20 external procedures) were undertaken in 72 patients with hypopharyngeal diverticulum. Endoscopic myotomy was preferred for patients with a narrow diverticular bar, or a large sack, and for older patients. Postoperative complications were not observed after this procedure, nor after 10 endoscopic reoperations. Transection of the bar relieves the symptoms and can be repeated at any time, even after an external procedure. Two large bladder diverticula that induced severe micturition disturbances were surgically removed in a 5-year-old boy with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). One year after surgery, a new, asymptomatic diverticulum developed. This case is discussed in the light of nine similar cases that have already been published. It is concluded that EDS diverticula form a distinct group characterized by postoperative recurrence. Two young adults had distal ileal obstruction at sites where a fold of mesentery extended from its posterior leaf to the antimesenteric border of the bowel. No Meckel's diverticulum or mesoumbilical band was present in either case.
