Acquired perforating dermatosis is a rare skin disease characterized by umbilicated hyperkeratotic papules or nodules and transepidermal elimination of dermal components such as collagen and elastic fibers. It has been reported in association with various systemic disorders, particularly chronic renal failure and diabetes mellitus. Common locations include the extensor extremities and trunk. We describe a patient who developed multiple lesions on the scalp only, an unusual and rarely described location.

This case report outlines the effective use of the Titanium Elastic Nail System (TENS) for treating a peri-implant mid-shaft radius and ulna fracture in a patient with previous elbow arthrodesis and rotational full-thickness flap coverage. Given the paucity of literature surrounding this complex problem, we present a minimally - invasive treatment option which facilitated complete fracture healing, demonstrating the TENS's efficacy in complex orthopedic scenarios.

Patients with Pierre-Robin sequence recalcitrant to nonsurgical intervention have historically required tracheostomy. Mandibular distraction provides a predictable alternative to tracheostomy. Orthodontic perioperative interventions should be considered, including overcorrection, placement of temporary anchorage devices, elastics, and molding the regenerate. Mandibular distraction can be technically difficult and may cause complications. Performed correctly, mandibular distraction provides patients with a better quality of life than tracheostomy.

We report a difficult healing process after a femoral shaft fracture in childhood. We present surgical correction options of femoral shortening due to pseudarthrosis after elastic stable intramedullary nailing. First, we tried to establish distraction using an external fixator, followed by plate osteosynthesis. After material failure of plate osteosynthesis, we treated the refracture with intramedullary nailing, after which bone healing occurred.

A 32-year-old woman with an uneventful antenatal period underwent a caesarean section for breech presentation. At laparotomy, there were multiple yellowish elastic nodules distributed along the parietal peritoneal surface, totalling over 30 lesions and worrying the surgical team. The conclusive diagnosis of peritoneal deciduosis was supported by pathological analysis (histology and immunohistochemistry). The present case reports an uncommon presentation of diffuse peritoneal deciduosis mimicking metastatic lesions.

A case of decompensated liver cirrhosis in a women with a long silent period of HBV infection is presented. The first manifestation was generalized vasculitis involving small and medium-size vessels and elastic-type arteries with the development of aortoarteritis. Proper interpretation of manifestations of viral liver cirrhosis allowed for immunosuppressive treatment in combination with effective antiviral drugs. As a result, aviremia, regression of vasculitis and portal hypertension along with considerable improvement of the prognosis were achieved.

Skin barrier function around the ulcer is usually impaired. Additionally, the skin can be atrophic, thinned, without skin adnexa and elastic fibers, dry and prone to callus formation. Skin barrier function can be improved with regular use of emollients. It is important to differentiate erythema around the ulcer induced by hypostatic eczema from cellulitis or erysipelas and from allergic or toxic contact dermatitis or eczema vulgaris because therapy is completely different.

Although aortic or cardiac complications are common in patients with Marfan syndrome, the presence of an intracranial aneurysm is comparatively rare. In this study, the authors report on their experience with resection of a ruptured fusiform aneurysm of the posterior cerebral artery in a 30-year-old woman with Marfan syndrome. Microscopic examination of the resected tissue showed many Alcian blue-staining deposits, consistent with the presence of mucopolysaccharide in the tunica media and focal fragmentation of the internal elastic lamina.

A drop in flexibility of the vertebral column is connected with chronic low back pain. Qualification of vertebral column flexibility is not so simple. Beside of clinical methods (for example Schober test), we can use a radiological method. Comparing values of Whitman-Fergusson's angle and Cobb's angle for standing and supine-lying position, author has stated a significant drop in elastic properties of the vertebral column in patients with chronic low back pain.

Intercostal pulmonary hernia is a rare finding in surgical practice. The hernia presents as an elastic expansion on the outer surface of the chest wall that is usually easily reducible. The protrusion increases in size during expiration and decreases, or disappears, during inspiration. Usually there are no other symptoms. We describe a man who developed a thoracic herniation of the lung 2 1/2 months after a video-assisted minithoracotomy. A concise review of the literature is included.

There are many techniques of vaginoplasty in congenital malformations of the vagina, all of which involve the use of labial and perineal skin flaps. The results are not uniformly satisfactory because of delayed stenosis in many patients. To avoid this complication, we have used labial expansion with tissue expanders to obtain an elastic and sufficiently large skin flap. We recommend this technique in patients with the adrenogenital syndrome associated with varying degrees of virilisation and in other intersex anomalies.

Two mechanisms that contribute to tooth eruption are proposed from analysis of the human jaws as elastic structures which are deformed intermittently under functional occlusal loads. One possible source of eruptive force is the transient pressure gradient established within each jaw as it is deformed. The second source, suggested by the computer model, is a consequence of the tension placed on periodontal-ligament fibres as individual tooth-sockets are distorted within the deformed jaws.

After operation for high rectal atresia, incontinence is common. The various operations that are used to cure incontinence can undoubtedly produce considerable improvement. Our own experience and the results published in the literature show that improvement in continence is mainly due to the creation of an elastic barrier that will induce the development of ampullary function in the neorectum. In this connection the mental development of the child is of great importance, as he or she has to become aware of the afferent impulses and act accordingly.
