BACKGROUND: The incidence of tongue cancer in young adults is on the rise. This trend is more pronounced in females. Although the aetiology is still unclear, there is mounting evidence that genetic syndromes can play a key role in development of oral cancers in this patient group. We report the first case of oral squamous cell carcinoma (oSCC) in a young adult with an MYH9-related disorder (MYH9-RD).

PURPOSE: Lymph node density(LND) has been shown to be a better prognosticator than conventional nodal classification to predict prognosis for squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) of the oral cavity. We describe a case of postoperative galactorrhea following the use of a pedicled pectoralis major myocutaneous flap for reconstruction of a pharyngolaryngeal defect in a woman with squamous cell carcinoma. Intrathyroidal parathyroid carcinoma is extremely rare clinical entity with potentially multiple diagnostic pitfalls. We report a case of 40-year-old man presented with classical manifestations of primary hyperparathyroidism, severe hypercalcemia and profoundly increased serum parathyroid hormone level. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in larynx is rare with children and adolescents. Usually larynx cancer is common with male smokers in the 7th decade. Among patients with no history of tobacco and/or alcohol consumption several factors have can play a role in the outbreak of laryngeal cancer: such as individual predisposition, radiation, gastroesophageal reflux, viral infection, dietary factors and environmental influences. In literature only few cases of laryngeal cancer with children are reported. Recent studies show that the most frequent laryngeal malignancy is the embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.

Malignant melanoma of the uvula and soft palate is very rare. We describe a case demonstrating the typical aggressive behavior of mucosal melanoma in contrast to cutaneous melanoma. Regional lymph node and distant metastases often develop rapidly in this type of melanoma. Despite aggressive surgical approaches, other treatment options are often limited and usually palliative. Therefore, early diagnosis is critical in patients with mucosal melanoma.

BACKGROUND: Non-traumatic atlanto-axial subluxation is a rare complication of upper neck inflammatory processes and head and neck surgery. It is called Grisel's syndrome named after P. Grisel, who first described this condition in 1930. Tumoral disease of the arteries is uncommon. It is possible that, in tumoral reoperations affecting cervical structures, periarterial fibrosis due to radiotherapy and previous surgery and metastatic adherences to the arterial wall makes radical surgery difficult. We present a case where the surgical treatment of a regional relapse from laryngeal neoplasm needed the removal of the common carotid artery and its reconstruction with autologous patent superficial femoral artery. A retrospective study of 142 T1-T2 hypopharyngeal cancers treated from 1977 to 1988 was carried out. Parathyroid carcinoma occurs in 0.1 to 5% as the cause of primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). It is difficult to determine the true incidence, because parathyroid carcinoma is diagnosed too often due to unreliable histologic criteria. This article reviews 11 cases of distal revascularization of the extracranial vertebral artery above C2. Revascularization was indicated in 7 cases of extensive atheromatous stenotic or occlusive lesions, 3 cases of dissecting aneurysm, and one case of cervical malformation of the vertebral artery.
