Depression as inferential rigidity: a meta-abductive account.

INTRODUCTION: Depression is a highly prevalent mental disorder worldwide, and its cognitive rigidity-characterized by persistent negative beliefs resistant to countervailing evidence-remains a critical puzzle in philosophical psychiatry and clinical psychology. Existing theories of abductive reasoning have struggled to explain why similar adversities lead to rigid negative cognition in some individuals but adaptive coping in others. METHODS: Drawing on a hierarchical reconstruction of Peircean abduction, this study develops a three-layer model of depressive inferential pathology. The theoreti

Understanding how to maintain paramedic simulation-based education quality: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Simulation-Based Education (SBE) is an essential component of paramedic training, offering a structured environment for students to develop clinical skills and decision-making capabilities. Despite the existence of SBE quality standards, such as those from the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), the application of these standards in maintaining paramedic SBE quality remains inconsistent. This study explores paramedic educators’ perceptions of SBE quality, the challenges in

Affirmation to fulfillment: Therapy experiences of transgender and nonbinary clients over time.

Transgender and nonbinary (TNB) people experience marginalization due to gender minority stigma. Research has demonstrated that many TNB people seek therapy to manage these stressors as well as more general distress. Given psychology's complex history with TNB care, it is of particular importance to facilitate therapy experiences for TNB clients that are fulfilling and affirming. In this longitudinal study, we investigated TNB peoples' perceptions of how their therapists responded to ongoing contextual factors related to systems of power (e.g., current events, political climate) in TNB peoples

Effectiveness of the Implementation of a Bundle Protocol for the Reduction of Postmastectomy Reconstruction Failures.

BACKGROUND: Immediate breast reconstruction with implants after mastectomy offers significant clinical and psychological benefits. However, implant loss due to infection or complications remains a major concern. Variability in surgical practices may contribute to this issue. This study aims to evaluate whether implementing a standardized protocol (bundle) of intra- and postoperative measures reduces the rate of reconstruction failures within 12 months of surgery. METHODS: A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted at a single institution, including 102 patients who underwent 119

When uncertainty becomes guilt: The moralisation of home urinary stoma care after bladder cancer surgery in China.

In post-discharge urinary stoma care, family members are often expected not only to perform technical tasks but also to interpret bodily problems and decide when professional help is needed. Existing research has documented caregiver burden, distress, and psychological strain extensively, but less is known about how guilt is produced through family relationships, uncertainty, and moral expectations of care. This study examines how informal caregivers of bladder cancer patients with urinary stomas in China described guilt, self-blame, and uncertainty in home care, and under what conditions unce
