MRI-Based Multi-Class Relevance Vector Machine Classification of Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Machine learning algorithms are a promising automated candidate that can help mitigate the growing need for dementia experts. Despite the substantial development in MRI-based machine learning analyses, case misclassification is a universal finding, yet the reasons behind misclassification are poorly understood. We implemented a multi-class classification approach that uses relevance vector machine and logistic classification to classify research participants based on their whole-brain T1-weighted MRI scans. A total of 468 participants from seven diagnostic classes were included: 144 healthy co

Integrating meteorological data and hybrid intelligent models for dengue fever prediction.

BACKGROUND: Dengue fever is a globally prevalent arbovirus disease that poses a serious challenge to global health. Therefore, analyzing the relationship between dengue fever incidence and meteorological factors and developing a more effective prediction model based on this relationship can provide a theoretical basis for public health departments to formulate reasonable prevention strategies. METHODS: We collected dengue fever cases and meteorological data, including temperature, humidity, sunshine duration, etc., from Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces in China from 2005-2024. A distributed l

An artificial intelligence algorithm to select most viable embryos considering current process in IVF labs.

BACKGROUND: The most common Assisted Reproductive Technology is In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). During IVF, embryologists commonly perform a morphological assessment to evaluate embryo quality and choose the best embryo for transferring to the uterus. However, embryo selection through morphological assessment is subjective, so various embryologists obtain different conclusions. Furthermore, humans can consider only a limited number of visual parameters resulting in a poor IVF success rate. Artificial intelligence (AI) for embryo selection is objective and can include many parameters, leading to

Identifying unilateral aldosterone-producing adenomas using published algorithms and imaging: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Primary aldosteronism (PA) caused by a unilateral aldosterone-producing adrenal adenoma is potentially curable by surgery. Radiologically visible adrenal adenomas are not necessarily functional, so adrenal vein sampling (AVS) is recommended to lateralise aldosterone excess. However, AVS is technically challenging and limited in availability. We sought to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of published algorithms for lateralisation without AVS and identify the top-performing algorithms with the highest specificity. DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Algorithms to p

AI Prediction of Future Antibiotics: Genome-Predicted Antimicrobial Peptides Are Stained with the Amino Acid Signature of Man-Made Synthetic Peptides.

This letter compares the amino acid signatures of natural and artificial intelligence (AI)-predicted antimicrobial peptides. While natural peptides from different sources possess distinct signatures, the amino acid compositions of peptides predicted from venoms, amphibians, insects, and bacteria shared a common feature with higher leucine, lysine, and arginine similar to those of man-made synthetic peptides. This stunning finding underscores the need of the right data set for improving future AI prediction of genomic antimicrobial peptides.

Forecasting seasonal influenza epidemics with physics-informed neural networks.

Accurate epidemic forecasting is critical for informing public health decisions and timely interventions. While physics-informed neural networks have shown promise in various scientific domains, their potential application to real-time epidemic forecasting remains underexplored. Here, we present SIR-INN, a hybrid forecasting framework that integrates the mechanistic structure of the classical Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered (SIR) model into a neural network architecture. Trained once on synthetic epidemic scenarios, the model is able to generalize across epidemic conditions without retraining

Longitudinal Monitoring and Predictive Modeling of Medication Adherence in Ischemic Stroke Patients.

Medication adherence is central to secondary prevention after ischemic stroke, but self-reported adherence may change during follow-up. In this single-center longitudinal framework, 210 participants were enrolled, and 191 completed the 180-day assessment. Medication-taking was assessed using a structured telephone interview for days 1-30, 31-90, and 91-180, and was classified as good when the exposure-day-weighted composite adherence percentage was at least 80%. The Chinese BMQ-Specific and Family APGAR were administered at day 30, day 90, and day 180. A four-predictor logistic model used resi

Predicting genetic evolution of viruses to identify suitable vaccines using artificial intelligence.

The evolution of the viruses is rapidly becoming a global challenge to the creation of vaccines since the new variants are often capable of escaping the immune system and decreasing the vaccine efficacy. The traditional methods of genomic epidemiology rely on the retrospective phylogenetic analysis, which can elucidate the previous mutations, but cannot predict the evolutionary trends in the future. In order to address these disadvantages, a new Refined Deep Evolutionary Learning Framework (R-DELF) is proposed that combines the genomic, structural, and temporal intelligence in predicting proac

Associations between training behaviors and injuries in performance-oriented parkrunners using traditional statistical methods and machine learning.

BACKGROUND: parkrun is the most popular recreational running event in the UK, yet running-related injuries (RRIs) pose a threat to participation. Training behaviors are likely to influence the likelihood of RRIs with strength and conditioning (S&C) activities widely believed to reduce RRI risk. This study aimed to examine associations between S&C training habits plus broader training behaviors and RRIs using traditional statistical methods and machine learning (ML). METHODS: parkrun participants completed an online survey including questions about personal characteristics, training behaviors,

Mantis: A foundation model for mechanistic disease forecasting.

Infectious disease forecasting in novel outbreaks or low-resource settings is hampered by the need for large disease and covariate datasets, bespoke training, and expert tuning, all of which can hinder rapid generation of forecasts for new settings. To address these challenges, we developed Mantis, a foundation model trained entirely on mechanistic simulations, which enables out-of-the-box forecasting across diseases, regions, and outcomes, even in settings with limited historical data. We evaluated Mantis against 78 forecasting models across 16 diseases with diverse transmission modes, assess

A Predictive Model for Intrapartum Cesarean Delivery in Multiparous Women After Active Labor Onset.

OBJECTIVE: Although prediction models for cesarean delivery have been established for nulliparous women, few have been developed for multiparous women, particularly for predicting intrapartum cesarean delivery after the onset of active labor. This study aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model for intrapartum cesarean delivery in this population and evaluate its clinical utility. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective case-control study at a single tertiary center (Suining Central Hospital, China) from January 2019 to June 2025. The study included 58 multiparous women who required

A machine learning gap-filling approach for daily forest soil CO2 flux based on environmental factors and eddy covariance variables.

Accurate gap-filling of daily soil CO₂ flux is essential for understanding forest carbon cycling and supporting the achievement of carbon neutrality goals. Using observations from the Ailaoshan forest site (2010-2013), we evaluated five machine-learning models with inputs including environmental variables, eddy covariance products such as ecosystem respiration and gross primary productivity, and a seasonal phase indicator. Seasonal patterns remained stable during the 4-year period, and no long-term trend was detected after quality control. After preprocessing, multiple machine learning models

Risk prediction models for central venous catheter-related complications in children: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Central venous catheters (CVCs) are widely used in pediatric care; however, their indwelling procedure can lead to severe complications such as catheter-associated infections and thrombosis. These complications significantly increase the suffering of pediatric patients, prolong hospitalization, and pose life-threatening risks. Although multiple risk prediction models have been developed to identify high-risk pediatric patients, a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of these models is still lacking. OBJECTIVE: We systematically reviewed published risk prediction models for centr
