Parasite exosomes-derived circulating sja-miR-61 and sja-miR-7-5p as Novel biomarkers for the detection of Schistosoma japonicum infection using TaqMan real-time PCR.

Schistosomiasis, a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by schistosome infection, remains a serious public health concern. However, diagnostic methods with both high sensitivity and specificity or early diagnosis for detecting schistosome infection are still lacking. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic potential of parasite-derived exosomes miRNAs in Schistosoma japonicum (S. japonicum) infection. Exosomes were isolated and purified from adult worms and eggs of S. japonicum using ultracentrifugation. Nine highly abundant miRNAs were identified in these exosomes through small RNA sequencin

T1 mapping-based multi-parametric MRI for subtyping and differentiation grading of non-small cell lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides excellent soft-tissue contrast and enables multi-parametric assessment of tumor biology. Longitudinal relaxation time (T1) mapping has emerged as a quantitative method capable of measuring the intrinsic T1 value of tissues, reflecting microscopic structural and compositional changes in the tumor microenvironment. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of magnetic resonance T1 mapping, alone and in combination with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), in differentiating histologic subtypes and asses

Development of a multimodal fully automated ensemble model to predict EGFR mutation and efficacy of EGFR-TKI in non-small cell lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Drugs for systemic therapy to advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are determined by the type of driver oncogenes and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunostaining. In this study, we investigated the potential for artificial intelligence to assist in detecting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation, which is one of the most frequent and important driver oncogenes, and predicting the efficacy of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in patients with NSCLC. METHODS: We built an ensemble model that combined machine learning models (logistic regressio

Comprehensive farm-level analysis of environmental and management descriptors for developing an efficient genetic evaluation of pasture-raised beef cattle.

The main objective of this study was to investigate environmental factors affecting yearling weight (YW) in pasture-raised Nellore cattle. The dataset encompassed records from 143,332 animals across 60 farms, integrating animal-level information (i.e., phenotype and pedigree relationships) with farm-level data on environmental conditions (climate, soil classifications, and elevation) and management practices at the rearing sites, hereafter referred to as descriptors. Farm-level descriptors were carefully selected based on three steps: (i) evaluation of each descriptor's contribution to explain

Phase 2 study of the efficacy and safety of ponsegromab in patients with cancer cachexia: PROACC-1 study design.

BACKGROUND: Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial metabolic wasting syndrome characterized by anorexia, unintentional loss of weight involving both skeletal muscle and adipose tissues, progressive functional impairment and reduced survival. Therapeutic strategies for this serious condition are very limited. Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) is a cytokine that is implicated in cancer cachexia and may represent both a biomarker of cancer cachexia and a potential therapeutic target. Ponsegromab is a potent and selective humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits GDF-15-mediated signalling.

Mucosal epithelial homeostasis: Reference intervals for skin, gill lamellae and filament for Atlantic salmon and other fish species.

Mucosal barriers are gatekeepers of health and exhibit homeostatic variation in relation to habitat and disease. Mucosal Mapping technology provides an in-depth examination of the dynamic mucous cells (MCs) in fish mucosal barriers on tangential sections, about 90° from the view of traditional histology. The method was originally developed and standardized in academia prior to the establishment of QuantiDoc AS to apply mucosal mapping, now trademarked as Veribarr™ for the analysis of skin, gills and gastrointestinal tracts. Veribarr™ uses design-based stereology for the selection and measureme

BRAIN AND EYE AS POTENTIAL TARGETS FOR IONIZING RADIATION IMPACT. PART V - ORGANIC AND FUNCTIONAL CHANGES CORRELATION ON THE EXAMPLE OF CERTAIN DISEASES.

The question about correlation between organic and functional changes in persons, exposed to radiation is still insufficiently studied. Dynamics of morbidity for different forms and classes of non-tumour diseases periodisation, proposed by epidemiologists, suggests the identification of three main periods: «early» (the first 6 post-Chornobyl accident years); «distant» (12-21 years) and «late» (22-30 years). However, the correspondence this periodisation to the results of epidemiological data, without taking into account the clinical features of the diseases, may contribute to the impression, t
