The sound field near the tympanic membrane (TM) is estimated based on acoustic data measured at the tip of a probe inserted into the ear canal, from which the area-distance function of the ear canal is calculated. Such information has the potential to quantify the sound input to the middle ear at high frequencies. In 2013 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) were created and became responsible for the planning and commissioning of health care services in their area. The Royal College of Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons created guideline for the CCGs in 2013 for the surgical treatment of prominent ears. An 80-year-old Caucasian man presented with an incidental and asymptomatic lesion in his right ear thought to be secondary to his use of hearing aids for presbycusis. He used Lyric hearing aids, designed for 24 hours-a-day use for 4 months at a time and had no other previous otological problems. He underwent a bony meatoplasty and vascular flap reconstruction via a retroauricular approach to remove the lesion for histological analysis and regrafting of the area. The lesion was confirmed on histopathology as an ear canal cholesteatoma.

Report of a rare case of severe bleeding from the middle ear cavity after myringotomy. On the basis of the case report, the procedure for such bleeding is discussed in the context of the literature.
