Creating an Implementation Enhancement Plan for a Digital Patient Fall Prevention Platform Using the CFIR-ERIC Approach: A Qualitative Study.

(1) Background: Inpatient falls are a major cause of hospital-acquired complications (HAC) and inpatient harm. Interventions to prevent falls exist, but it is unclear which are most effective and what implementation strategies best support their use. This study uses existing implementation theory to develop an implementation enhancement plan to improve the uptake of a digital fall prevention workflow. (2) Methods: A qualitative approach using focus groups/interview included 12 participants across four inpatient wards, from a newly built, 300-bed rural referral hospital. Interviews were coded t

Evaluation of opportunities to implement community-wide mass drug administration for interrupting transmission of soil-transmitted helminths infections in India.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) guidelines recommend control of soil transmitted helminth (STH)-associated morbidity with targeted deworming of preschool and school-aged children who are disproportionately affected by STH-associated morbidity. However, this strategy leaves many adults untreated and reinfection within communities perpetuates transmission even when mass drug administration (MDA) coverage of children is high. Evidence suggests that it may be possible to interrupt STH transmission by expanding MDA to a community-wide MDA (cMDA). METHODS:

Characteristics of recurrence risk perception and coping strategies in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Although neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) has high recurrence and disability rates, cases of relapses can be recognized, and timely intervention can be provided if the risk of relapse is properly perceived. However, there have been no studies to explore patients' perceptions of recurrence risk and coping strategies. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of relapse risk perception and coping strategies of patients with NMOSD. METHODS: We adopted the phenomenological method of qualitative research. Face-to-face, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conduc

Socioeconomic risk factors for long-term opioid use: A national registry-linkage study.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use has increased substantially as a treatment for chronic pain, although harms from long-term opioid therapy outweigh th … use both among people in working age and older people. These results indicate a need for social and financial support for non-pharmacological treatment of chronic pain among people with lower socioeconomic status. SIGNIFICANCE: This study shows that people with low socioeconomic status are at higher risk of developing long-term opioid use. In the clinical setting, …

The international experience of in-situ recovery of the DCD heart: a multicentre retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Heart transplantation is an effective treatment offering the best recovery in both quality and quantity of life in those affected by refractory, severe heart failure. However, transplantation is limited by donor organ availability. The reintroduction of heart donation after the circulatory determination of death (DCD) in 2014 offered an uplift in transplant activity by 30%. Thoraco-abdominal normothermic regional perfusion (taNRP) enables in-situ reperfusion of the DCD heart. The objective of this paper is to assess the clinical outcomes of DCD donor hearts recovered and transplant

Experiences of referral with an obstetric emergency: voices of women admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, South Western Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Life-threatening obstetric complications usually lead to the need for referral and constitute the commonest direct causes of maternal deaths. Urgent management of referrals can potentially lower the maternal mortality rate. We explored the experiences of women referred with obstetric emergencies to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) in Uganda, in order to identify barriers and facilitating factors. METHODS: This was an exploratory qualitative study. In-depth interviews (IDIs) were conducted with 10 postnatal women and 2 attendants as key informants. We explored health syste

Alitretinoin as a Treatment Modality for Ichthyosis in Women of Childbearing Age: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Acitretin, a synthetic vitamin A derivative, is the most studied and widely used oral retinoid for ichthyoses. Its major disadvantage is the need for contraceptive measures during 3 years after discontinuation. An alternative is needed for women of childbearing age. With alitretinoin, another retinoid, pregnancy is considered safe 1 month after discontinuation. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to provide evidence for alitretinoin as an alternative for acitretin for ichthyosis in women of childbearing age. Our experience is shared in a case series combined with an overview of

Qualitative study of barriers and facilitators to HIV detection and treatment among women who inject drugs during the war against Ukraine.

BACKGROUND: The Russian Federation's invasion in Ukraine has resulted social hardship, millions of internally displaced persons, the destruction of medical infrastructure, and limited access to HIV services. There is no available information regarding the impact of the war on the HIV treatment cascade among women who inject drugs (WWID) in Ukraine. In this study, we examine the barriers and facilitators of HIV detection, initiation of treatment, and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) among WWID. METHODS: During the in-depth interviews, participants were queried about their needs for HI
