Prediction of hematoma expansion in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage using support vector machine.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating disease with high mortality rate. This study aimed to predict hematoma expansion in spontaneous ICH from routinely available variables by using support vector machine (SVM) method. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 1157 patients with spontaneous ICH who underwent initial computed tomography (CT) scan within 6 h and follow-up CT scan within 72 h from symptom onset in our hospital between September 2013 and August 2018. Hematoma region was manually segmented at each slice to guarantee the measurement accuracy of hematoma

Advance care planning for patients with advanced neurology diseases.

BACKGROUND: Advanced neurology diseases including motor neuron disease (MND) are usually progressive life-limiting illness and could be devastating for patients, families and caregivers. Although medical technologies, such as enteral feeding and non-invasive ventilation, may prolong life expectancy of the patients, their utilization prompts important ethical questions in regard to their quality of life (QoL). Little attention had been paid on how ACP practice would practically help with patients suffering from different neurology diseases. We are unaware of any published studies on ACP practic

The Typhoid Vaccine Acceleration Consortium (TyVAC): Vaccine effectiveness study designs: Accelerating the introduction of typhoid conjugate vaccines and reducing the global burden of enteric fever. Report from a meeting held on 26-27 October 2016, Oxford, UK.

Typhoid fever is estimated to cause between 11.9-26.9 million infections globally each year with 129,000-216,510 deaths. Access to improved water sources have reduced disease incidence in parts of the world but the use of efficacious vaccines is seen as an important public health tool for countries with a high disease burden. A new generation of Vi typhoid conjugate vaccines (TCVs), licensed for use in young children and expected to provide longer lasting protection than previous vaccines, are now available. The WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) has convened a work

[PALLIATIVE CARE OF PATIENT WITH GASTROINTESTINAL CANCER IN FAMILY MEDICINE].

Palliative care is defined as the care for patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. The goals of palliative care are symptom control, life prolongation and enabling the best possible quality of life for patients and their families. For most patients with an advanced progressive incurable disease, 90% of care in their last year of life is provided at home by family physician and his team and patient family. Patients suffering from cancer have a mean of of 11.9 symptoms in the last three months of life. The most common symptoms are digestive tract symptoms and pain. The gr

AI-Assisted Nutrition Estimation and Exercise Support for Integrated Lifestyle Management in Patients with Diabetes.

Background/Objectives: Multidimensional lifestyle interventions that combine healthy diet, physical activity, and psychosocial support are central to the effective self-management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Although digital health tools can improve lifestyle monitoring, existing AI-based dietary assessment methods often struggle to estimate food quantity accurately because the food size and scale are difficult to determine from images. This can lead to inconsistent estimates of food mass and energy content. This paper aimed to develop and technically evaluate PC2FoodNet, an AI-based framew

Process and Strategies for Implementing an Antenatal Psychosocial Clinical Decision Support System Within an Inter-Organisational Care Context: The Born in Belgium Professionals Platform.

Background/Objectives: Despite ongoing innovation, few interventions-including Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS)-are successfully integrated into routine care. Understanding the process through which innovations are implemented is therefore essential for advancing practice and research. In perinatal settings, evidence on how CDSS implementation unfolds and which strategies support adoption, scale-up, and sustainment remains limited. This study aimed to understand the implementation process, key determinants and implementation strategies of a shared antenatal psychosocial CDSS (i.e., the

Building and evaluating a social prescribing program for carer-employees: an intervention study.

BACKGROUND: Within a 12-month time window, and in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP), an extension of the Canadian Red Cross (CRC), we will develop and test a social prescribing (SP) program intervention in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for Carer-Employees (CEs) - those who balance unpaid care of an adult dependent with paid employment. Given the emergence of SP programs geared towards unpaid carers more broadly, the development of an SP program specific to CEs will provide coordinated access to social and community supports that are unique to the needs of CEs in

How to measure the effectiveness of healthcare providers acting as an 'anchor institution': a case study of the NHS in Greater Manchester, England.

OBJECTIVES: To improve social determinants of health, healthcare organisations can support societal and economic goals in their role as anchor institutions (large organisations with an important presence and ties to a place). In England, the National Health Service (NHS) Long Term Plan highlighted the role of the NHS as an Anchor. Despite a clear policy mandate on this, less is known about specific indicators to measure and benchmark anchor performance. A set of metrics was developed to quantify anchor activity using the Greater Manchester (GM) region in England as a case study. DESIGN: Descr

Assessing the Role of Military Units in Epidemic Response: A Scoping Review of Key Issues.

INTRODUCTION: Military forces have long supported epidemic and pandemic response, offering rapid mobilization, logistics, and operational capacity in challenging environments. Their roles-from building treatment centers and transporting supplies to enforcing quarantines-were especially visible during the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite abundant case-specific literature, no broad synthesis has examined operational contributions, ethical dilemmas, coordination mechanisms, and long-term effects on health systems. METHODS: Following Reporting Items for Systematic Revie

Mobile application traffic reveals multifunctional use patterns in Parisian parks.

Urban parks play a key role in supporting public health. Landscape architecture typically considers parks through the lens of form and function. While past research on equitable access has focused mainly on park form, studies addressing functional uses have been constrained by limited scale and coarse measurement techniques. Existing efforts have partially quantified park functions through small-scale surveys and movement data (e.g.,GPS, check-ins) or general usage data (e.g.,CDR), but have not effectively captured the specific activities and motivations underlying park visits. As a result, ou

Patterns of opioid use behaviors among patients seen in the emergency department: Latent class analysis of baseline data from the POINT pragmatic trial.

INTRODUCTION: The nation's overdose epidemic has been characterized by increasingly potent opioids resulting in more emergency department (ED) encounters over time. ED-based opioid use interventions are growing in popularity; however, they tend to treat people who use opioids as a homogenous population. The current study sought to understand heterogeneity among people who use opioids who encounter the ED by identifying qualitatively different subgroups among participants in an opioid use intervention clinical trial at baseline and examining associations between subgroup membership and multiple

Cervical cancer screening program based on primary DNA-HPV testing in a Brazilian city: a cost-effectiveness study protocol.

BACKGROUND: The causal relationship between high-risk (hr) HPV infection and precancerous lesions or cervical cancer has led to the development of strategies to increase screening performance and prevent this cancer. The increased sensitivity of DNA-HPV testing compared to cervical cytology favors DNA-HPV testing as a primary screening test. Cervical cancer screening in Brazil is opportunistic, and this cancer remains a considerable health problem with a high proportion of diagnoses in advanced stages. This paper aims to describe the design and implementation of the Cervical Cancer Screening P
