PURPOSE: To determine the appearance of reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) at magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-one patients with suspected RSD were prospectively evaluated at MR imaging with T1- and T2-weighted sequences and T1-weighted sequences with fat suppression before and after the intravenous administration of contrast material.

ECG-gated spin-echo imaging can reduce vascular artefacts compared with spin-echo scans without gating. However, this method produces poor T1-weighted images because the repetition time (TR) is limited by the heart rate. We report on 11 patients with HIV infection and visceral leishmaniasis and who were treated with meglumine antimoniate plus allopurinol for 3 weeks (six patients) or 4 weeks (five patients). Clinical and parasitological cures were achieved in four of the five patients treated for 4 weeks and in one of the six patients treated for 3 weeks. Only one patient developed a severe maculopapular rash. Relapse after chemotherapy using the pentavalent antimonials, sodium stibogluconate and meglumine antimoniate, was assessed in 135 patients diagnosed in the Aba Roba focus of south western Ethiopia during the period 1982-1991. Ten cases relapsed with a mean of 15.6 +/- 16.3 months following treatment. The MRI and CT studies of four patients with ganglion cell tumours, one with a cerebellar gangliocytoma (Lhermitte-Duclos disease), and three with gangliogliomas are reported. Five cases of pathologically proved psammomatoid ossifying fibromas of the sinonasal area are presented.
