BACKGROUND: Preeclampsia is a potentially devastating disorder of hypertension in pregnancy for which there is currently no definitive treatment short of delivery. The bufadienolide, marinobufagenin (MBG), an inhibitor of Na(+)/K(+) ATPase, has been found to be elevated in extracellular fluid volume-expanded hypertensive patients, a condition similar to preeclampsia. BACKGROUND: The mechanism of the antisecretory effect of loperamide was investigated in cultured highly differentiated colon epithelial cells (HT-29/B6).
METHODS: Chloride secretion was stimulated via cAMP by forskolin (FSK, 10(-5) M), via Ca2+ by the muscarinic agonist carbachol (CCh, 10(-4) M), and via protein kinase C by the phorbol ester PMA (5 x 10(-9) M). BACKGROUND: The frequent use of diuretic drugs in cardiac surgical practice contrasts with the lack of documentation regarding diuretic treatment in this setting. The aims of this study were to delineate the need for diuretic drugs in adult cardiac surgical practice and to evaluate the impact of adding a combination of 50 mg hydrochlorothiazide and 5 mg amiloride orally to patients responding poorly to furosemide.

Functional single fibers innervating the lower canine tooth were recorded from filaments split from the inferior alveolar nerve.
