PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and demographic factors of melanocytic lesions of the ocular surface, such as racial melanosis, primarily acquired melanosis, conjunctival nevus, and conjunctival melanoma in a Hispanic population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional and observational study was undertaken in a tertiary referral ophthalmological center in northern Mexico from December 2020 to April 2021. All patients attending an ophthalmology specialty clinic were screened during their first visit in order to detect melanocytic lesions of the ocular surface.

BACKGROUND: Melanocytic lesions of the central nervous system (CNS) are an infrequent, broad and diverse group of entities, both benign and malignant, found in all age groups, with imaging findings ranging from well-circumscribed focal lesions to diffuse leptomeningeal involvement. On MRI, they are usually distinguished by a high signal on T1WI sequences, given the paramagnetic effect of melanin, thus making it difficult to differentiate among them.

Dermatofibrosarcomas protuberans (DFSP) are rare low-grade tumours with various subtypes and usually occur among middle-aged adults. However, myoid differentiation is very rare. We report a 44-year-old woman who presented to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, New Delhi, India, in 2017 with a recurrent pigmented DFSP presenting as an arm swelling. Upon histological and immunohistochemical analysis, myoid differentiation was confirmed. A literature review of the clinical and histopathological features of this rare entity is presented.

Skin trait variation impacts quality-of-life, especially for females from the viewpoint of beauty. To investigate genetic variation related to these traits, we conducted a GWAS of various skin phenotypes in 11,311 Japanese women and identified associations for age-spots, freckles, double eyelids, straight/curly hair, eyebrow thickness, hairiness, and sweating. In silico annotation with RoadMap Epigenomics epigenetic state maps and colocalization analysis of GWAS and GTEx Project eQTL signals provided information about tissue specificity, candidate causal variants, and functional target genes.

In the last 16 years only seven definite cases of anal melanocytic naevi have been reported in the literature. We describe three new cases, none of which were suspected clinically and were incidentally diagnosed on histological examination of haemorrhoidectomy specimens. The infrequency of these special site flexural melanocytic lesions may be related to changes in the involutionary mechanisms of the anal melanocyte proliferation. However, other factors related to the low detection rates by clinicians and pathologists need also to be considered.
