Adaptive non-parametric kernel density estimation for under-frequency load shedding with electric vehicles and renewable power uncertainty.

As power systems around the world shift to incorporate more renewable energy sources, particularly wind power, maintaining grid stability becomes increasingly challenging due to the inherent variability of these sources. This paper introduces a novel bi-level robust optimization framework that enhances the capabilities of adaptive Under-Frequency Load Shedding (AUFLS) in managing the uncertainties brought by high penetration of wind energy and dynamic participation of electric vehicles (EVs). Central to this framework is an innovative adaptive non-parametric Kernel Density Estimation (AAKDE) t

Serial D-dimer measurements dynamically predict disease severity in acute biliary pancreatitis: a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Early risk stratification is required in cases of acute biliary pancreatitis (ABP). Traditional scoring systems such as Ranson's criteria are complex and often delay treatment. D-dimer, a basic marker of systemic inflammation and coagulation, has shown promise as a prognostic tool. The present study investigates whether the predictive accuracy of serial serum D-dimer measurements is superior to that of the Ranson and BISAP scoring systems for moderate-to-severe ABP. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Included in this single-center prospective observational study were 264 patients diagnose

Conceptualizing maternal mental health in rural Ghana: a realist qualitative analysis.

In low- and middle-income countries, maternal mental health needs remain neglected, and common mental disorders during pregnancy and after birth are routinely associated with hormonal changes. The psycho-social and spiritual components of childbirth are often downplayed. A qualitative study was conducted as part of a wider realist evaluation on health systems responsiveness to examine the interrelationships between pregnant and postnatal women, their families, and their environment, and how these influence women's interactions with healthcare providers in Ghana. Data collection methods combine

Loss of a limb: A consequence of traditional bone setting.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Traditional bone setting (TBS) is commonly practiced in many communities worldwide, especially in developing countries in Asia, South America, and Africa, where healthcare resources are less developed. It plays an important role in healthcare delivery systems and remains a widely used alternative to modern medical care for limb fractures. This practice involves using wooden straps and casts to immobilize and stretch the injured limb, often leading to complications such as non-union, malunion, infections, compartment syndrome, and even limb amputations.
