Sexual health in neuromuscular diseases: Neglected challenges revealed by a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) are heterogeneous disorders causing progressive motor decline, multisystem complications, and reduced quality of life. Sexual health, a key component of well-being, remains largely overlooked. This scoping review mapped and synthesized evidence on sexual dysfunction (SD) in adults with NMDs, focusing on prevalence, underlying mechanisms, and research gaps. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar (February-March 2025) identified studies reporting original data on SD in adults with genetically or clinically confirmed

Optimizing Alveolar Ridge Preservation and GBR: A Systematic Review of Membranes, Grafts, and Soft Tissue Strategies for Personalized Care.

BACKGROUND: Alveolar bone loss following tooth extraction remains one of the main challenges in implant dentistry. To counteract the physiological resorption that occurs post-extraction, regenerative techniques such as alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) have been developed. These approaches use bone graft materials and barrier membranes to preserve or restore alveolar architecture, facilitating optimal implant placement. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aims to critically evaluate the most relevant and methodologically robust clinical studies comparing the e

Implant-Supported and Conventional Dentures: A Meta-Analysis in Older Adults.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Edentulism is highly prevalent among older adults, with approximately 30% of adults aged ≥60 years affected by complete tooth loss in at least one dental arch. Conventional complete dentures (CCDs) often provide suboptimal retention and stability, negatively impacting oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and masticatory performance. Implant-retained overdentures (IODs) have been suggested as a potential alternative to improve patient-reported and functional outcomes. PURPOSE: Our goal was to assess the influence of IODs vs CCDs on masticatory effectiveness, dentu…

Alveolar and maxillary sinus volumetric quantification after sinus lift, bone graft, and implant placement using cone-beam computed tomography: A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Tooth loss in the posterior maxilla frequently leads to alveolar ridge resorption and maxillary sinus pneumatization, compromising implant placement and often requiring sinus lift (SL) procedures. This study evaluated volumetric changes in the alveolar ridge and maxillary sinus using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) after SL, inorganic bovine bone grafting, and implant placement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 16 maxillary sinuses from 12 patients (6 female and 6 male; mean age: 55.8 years). CBCT scans were obtained at baseline (T0), postgraft…

Implant-supported fixed prosthodontic treatment for ectodermal dysplasia: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) often results in congenital tooth agenesis and severe developmental alveolar ridge defects, leading to functional impairments, reduced masticatory efficiency, and psychosocial challenges. Limited local blood supply and rapid bone resorption in ED patients pose significant challenges for predictable implant rehabilitation, highlighting the need for biologically guided, long-term restorative strategies. CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-year-old male patient with hypohidrotic ED (HED) presented with multiple congenitally missing teeth (FDI 12–16, 22–26, 34–35, 42, 44

MECP2 Insufficiency Attenuates RUNX2-Dependent Osteoblast Differentiation via miR-126-3p/DKK1-Mediated Canonical Wnt Signaling Inhibition in Rett Syndrome.

Rett syndrome (RTT) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the gene encoding methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MECP2) that is located on the X chromosome. Affected individuals also exhibit a variety of non-neurological symptoms such as kyphoscoliosis and osteoporosis. Thus, MECP2 may play a functional role in bone remodeling and osteoblast differentiation. This study aimed to clarify the molecular mechanisms underlying the deregulation of bone remodeling in RTT. Human deciduous tooth-derived mesenchymal stem cells that exhibit osteoblast plasticity were used

Single-cell transcriptomics identifies PDGFRA+ progenitors orchestrating angiogenesis and periodontal tissue regeneration.

Periodontal bone defects, primarily caused by periodontitis, are highly prevalent in clinical settings and manifest as bone fenestration, dehiscence, or attachment loss, presenting a significant challenge to oral health. In regenerative medicine, harnessing developmental principles for tissue repair offers promising therapeutic potential. Of particular interest is the condensation of progenitor cells, an essential event in organogenesis that has inspired clinically effective cell aggregation approaches in dental regeneration. However, the precise cellular coordination mechanisms during condens

Endodontic management of internal replacement resorption of two maxillary central incisors with the aid of cone-beam computed tomography as the diagnostic tool: a case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Internal root resorption is an infrequent resorption of dentin and stands among one of the endodontic challenges which comprises two types: internal replacement and inflammatory resorption. Regardless of the location, root resorption does not regress and continues to cause discomfort or sometimes tooth loss if left untreated. Internal replacement resorption is rarer compared with the other type of internal resorption. Regarding the scarcity of internal replacement resorption, the present article reports a case of endodontic management of internal replacement resorption by using Neo…
