Functionally oriented rehabilitation program for patients with fibromyalgia: preliminary results.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate function and disability in patients with fibromyalgia before and after participation in a functionally oriented, multidisciplinary, 8-wk treatment program. DESIGN: A total of 23 patients who met American College of Rheumatology criteria for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia were enrolled in the study. Outcome measures included: range of motion, 6-min walk test, a modified Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, a modified SF-36 Physical Functioning Scale, and the Fibromyalgia Health Assessment Questionnaire. Pretreatment and posttreatment scores were analyzed using paired t test

Quinapril. A reappraisal of its pharmacology and therapeutic efficacy in cardiovascular disorders.

Following systemic absorption, quinapril is converted by de-esterification to quinaprilat (the active diacid metabolite), an inhibitor of an … r other standard antihypertensive agents in comparative trials. Quinapril < or = 40 mg/day improved exercise tolerance, reduced the severity and frequency of symptoms, and improved functional (New York Heart Association) class in most clinical studies of patients with congestive heart failure. Long-Term Impact of Left Bundle Branch Block on Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test Variables and Left Ventricular Systolic Function: A Two-Stage Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Left bundle branch block (LBBB) disrupts the electrical activation of the left ventricle, potentially impairing its systolic f … dered mild to moderate. CONCLUSIONS: LBBB patients with initially preserved LVEF displayed reduced exercise tolerance and a decrease in LVEF over time, emphasizing the need for vigilant monitoring and early intervention in these patients.

Nutritional pathways from treatment to management of sarcopenia in patients with gastric cancer: a narrative review.

Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, represents a significant clinical concern among patients undergoing gastric cancer surgery. Postoperative individuals are particularly vulnerable due to gastrointestinal dysfunction, reduced nutrient intake, systemic inflammation, and treatment-induced metabolic stress. This condition is associated with higher complication rates, delayed recovery, chemotherapy intolerance, and decreased survival, underscoring the importance of early detection and effective nutritional management. This narrative review integ

Menstrual Cycle and Hormonal Contraceptives in Female Athletes: Should Symptoms and Nutrition Matter More than Cycle Phase? A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Understanding how endogenous hormonal fluctuations and exogenous hormonal modulation influence exercise-related outcomes in women is essential for developing individualized and evidence-informed training and nutritional strategies. This narrative review summarizes the endocrine physiology of the eumenorrheic menstrual cycle and hormonal contraceptive (HC) use and critically examines their implications for athletic performance, neuromuscular function, injury risk, and metabolic regulation in physically active women. METHODS: A non-systematic literature search was conducted in PubMe

CONCLUSIONS: G47R represents a pathogenic TTR mutation characterized by substantial structural destabilization and amyloidogenicity, consistent with early-onset disease. Hypertensive heart disease and HFpEF:atrial functional valve regurgitation as the trigger of acute heart failure in a syndrome of exertional dyspnoea.

Hypertensive heart disease (HHD) is widely regarded as the principal structural substrate underlying heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Accordingly, contemporary models have largely focused on ventricular remodeling, myocardial fibrosis, microvascular abnormalities as the mechanisms linking chronic hypertension to heart failure (HF). However, current concepts increasingly recognize HFpEF as a syndrome predominantly characterized by impaired exercise tolerance and exertional dyspnea without tendency to congestion at rest, whereas the mechanisms responsible for progression t…

Weight changes following total hip and total knee arthroplasty - A systematic review.

THE BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Symptomatic osteoarthritis can result in reduced mobility and exercise tolerance, leading to weight gain. Patients often feel that arthroplasty will result in improved mobility, reduced pain, and subsequent weight loss. The purpose of this systematic review was to assess weight changes following lower limb arthroplasty from available published literature. METHODS: A systematic review of PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were performed in accordance to PRISMA guidelines. Studies reporting significant weight changes of 5 % of pre-operative we…

Maximal aerobic power and anaerobic power reserves to prescribe cycling interval training sessions.

BACKGROUND: Prescribing interval training intensity can be challenging due to individual variations in physiological capacity. Traditional methods often rely on maximal aerobic power (MAP), but this may not fully capture the characteristics of different athletes. This study aimed to investigate whether alternative methods, such as anaerobic power reserve (APR) and glycolytic power reserve (GPR), could provide more individualized high-intensity interval training (HIIT) prescriptions. METHODS: Twelve trained cyclists completed a cardiopulmonary test and Wingate test to determine MAP, APR, and G

Investigating the Impact of Ferric Derisomaltose (FDI) on Patient-Reported Quality-of-Life Outcome Measures in Iron-Deficient but Not Anaemic Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Background/Objectives: Iron deficiency without anaemia (IDNA) is common in non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD) and contributes to fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance, and impaired quality of life (QoL). While intravenous (IV) iron replacement is known to benefit anaemic patients, its role in IDNA remains uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ferric derisomaltose (FDI) on patient-reported QoL outcomes in CKD patients with IDNA. Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of the double-blind, multicentre Iron and the Heart randomised controlled trial. Fifty-four partici…
