PURPOSE: The results after acetabular fracture are primarily related to the quality of articular reduction. Using the AO large femoral distractor, incarcerated fragments can be easily removed, and marginally impacted fragments can be elevated under direct visualization without further re-dislocating the joint. The current study aimed to evaluate our early results of using the AO large femoral distractor as an assisting tool during ORIF of acetabular fractures associated with marginal impaction or intraarticular incarcerated fragments.
METHODS: Eighteen patients were included in this retrospec

BACKGROUND: Recent attention in THA has focused on minimally invasive techniques and their short-term outcomes. Despite much debate over the outcomes and complications of the two-incision and the mini-lateral and mini-posterior approaches, complications arising from use of the anterior THA on a fracture table are not well documented.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: We determined the intraoperative and postoperative complications with the anterior approach to THA through an extended single-surgeon patient series.
METHODS: We reviewed 800 primary THAs performed anteriorly with the aid of a fracture table

Post mortem hyoid bone fracture findings may be attributable to various factors, including both the onset of acute mechanical asphyxia as it happens in manual strangulation and in charred corpses. In forensic practice, the discovery of corpses burned after death to hide their real cause of death is not uncommon: in these cases, the diagnostic challenge is even greater, as the action of flames is capable of both masking previously generated lesions and/or generating new ones, as occurs for hyoid bone fractures. The case concerns a 76-year-old man found charred in his bedroom. Almost complete bo

A dislocation or break of the tarsometatarsal joint in the foot is referred to as a Lisfranc fracture, sometimes called a Lisfranc injury. It can be caused by less stressful mechanisms like a twisting fall as well as high-energy events like car crashes or falls from heights. Swelling, bruises, and midfoot pain that gets worse when standing or walking are some of the symptoms. The damage may only affect the ligaments or the foot's bony structures. Nonoperative or surgical treatment may be part of the management, depending on how severe the injury is. In order to realign and stabilize the bones,

To evaluate the outcome of thoracolumbar spine fractures in active duty soldiers, we conducted a retrospective review of 23 soldiers followed at a single institution. Twenty-two charts were available for review. The average age was 31.9 years (range, 19-49 years), and the average follow-up was 3.6 years (range, 2-11 years). There were 20 males and 2 females. All injuries except one occurred between 1990 and 1994, and all were treated by a single surgeon. We attempted to correlate five independent variables with regard to whether the patient returned to his or her previous duty or was required

BACKGROUND: Multifragmentary posterior wall fractures are not uncommon after posterior hip fracture-dislocation. They can be elementary but are commonly associated with transverse acetabular fractures. Specific technical challenges are encountered when managing these fracture patterns. The loss of the posterior landmarks due to the associated comminution may render achieving an anatomical reduction and stable fixation difficult. The application of spring plates can provide a good buttress with multiple anchor points and creates a new cortex for the bridging plate.

Acute laryngeal trauma is estimated to occur in approximately one patient per 14 500 to 42 500 emergency room admissions. If the larynx is injured, its vital functions are affected and can be threatened in case of severe injury. Soft cartilage offers no protective advantage, which is the reason why young as well as older individuals are at risk of thyroid cartilage fracture. Experimentation on cadaver larynx has demonstrated that virtually all laryngeal fractures are longitudinally oriented. Furthermore, muscular pull can contribute to a misalignment of the fractures. As stated by Bent and Por
