Enhancing the health of medical students: outcomes of an integrated mindfulness and lifestyle program.

Medical students experience various stresses and many poor health behaviours. Previous studies consistently show that student wellbeing is at its lowest pre-exam. Little core-curriculum is traditionally dedicated to providing self-care skills for medical students. This paper describes the development, implementation and outcomes of the Health Enhancement Program (HEP) at Monash University. It comprises mindfulness and ESSENCE lifestyle programs, is experientially-based, and integrates with biomedical sciences, clinical skills and assessment. This study measured the program's impact on medical

Feasibility of an oral hydration regimen post high-dose methotrexate in children with acute leukemia: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Administration of high-dose methotrexate(HDMTX) requires strict intravenous hydration contributing to lengthy hospital stays. Transition to oral hydration regimen(OHR) after ensuring adequate methotrexate(MTX) clearance could decrease duration of hospitalization. PURPOSE: The primary objective was to assess the feasibility of administration of OHR post HDMTX infusion in an in-hospital setting by evaluating the proportion of HDMTX courses completed on OHR. METHODS: This was a prospective, single-centre pilot study. Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma aged 5-18years,

Evaluation of Knowledge and Attitude Among General Dental Practitioners Towards the Impact of Psychological Factors Affecting Periodontium: A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire Survey.

Background Periodontal disease is a multifactorial inflammatory condition influenced not only by microbial plaque but also by systemic, environmental, behavioral, and psychological factors. Psychological conditions, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, may contribute to periodontal disease progression through altered immune responses, increased inflammatory mediators, poor oral hygiene practices, smoking, and decreased compliance with dental treatment. General dental practitioners (GDPs) are often the first healthcare professionals to identify oral manifestations associated with psychologi

Mental Distress and Associated Factors Among Women Who Experienced Gender Based Violence in Ethiopia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

IntroductionOngoing internal conflicts in Ethiopia have increased women's exposure to gender-based violence (GBV), placing them at greater risk of mental distress. Although the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, has implemented interventions to address the mental health needs of GBV survivors, synthesized evidence on the prevalence of mental distress and its associated factors remains limited. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of mental distress and identify factors associated with mental distress

Terminal ulcers in end-of-life care: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: In the final stage of life, the skin may fail, leading to the development of terminal ulcers. These ulcers are considered unavoidable, since they occur despite all pressure-relieving interventions being implemented and the best quality of care being provided. However, they are often misdiagnosed as pressure injuries, since healthcare professionals are not always adequately prepared for this topic. Thus, effective palliative care and palliative wound care is not provided and prevalence data is missed, despite it being considered a solid indicator of the quality of nursing care. Sinc

Psychometric properties of instruments for assessing the methodological quality and risk of bias in non-randomized studies of interventions: a systematic review and meta-analysis in accordance with the COSMIN guideline.

OBJECTIVES: Nonrandomized studies of interventions (NRSIs) provide valuable evidence in health sciences but are prone to biases that affect validity. Multiple instruments have been developed for critical appraisal, although their measurement properties remain insufficiently investigated. These instruments typically aim to evaluate two key theoretical constructs: methodological quality (MQ) and risk of bias (RoB), which reflect different but complementary dimensions of study rigor and internal validity. The COnsensus-basedStandards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) fr
