Copper deficient and control rats were pair-fed from weaning a milk-based diet. Each animal received 25 mg of iron parenterally. After 6 weeks of dietary manipulations the animals were killed. In 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized heavy menstrual bleeding as one of the risk factors of anemia in "Accelerating anemia reduction: A complex framework for action." Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) leads to chronic increased blood loss causing iron deficiency anemia. Current National health programs in India do not address HMB as a risk factor of anemia in women. Owing to the high burden of anemia and emerging recognition of HMB as one of the causes for anemia, there is need to map the existing evidence on the burden, consequences and management of HMB in context of anemia.

OBJECTIVE: Assess the frequency of anti-H+ /K+ adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) autoantibodies (AAB) and symptoms of autoimmune gastritis in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Anti-H+ /K+ ATPase AAB were measured in 402 children and adolescents (210 boys and 192 girls, 11.1 ± 4.5 years) treated for T1D (screened positive for β-cell AAB), along with search of symptoms of anemia (hemoglobin, serum iron, and ferritin levels) and gastric pain. Skin reactions against injected or implanted foreign materials are not rare. Siderosis is a disease characterized by the accumulation of iron in various tissues. Brownish-gray discoloration of the skin can be seen as a side-effect on the injection area after the parenteral iron treatment. Here, we present cutaneous siderosis case developed after multiple intramuscular iron injection on the gluteal region for iron-deficiency anemia. Development of cutaneous siderosis after intramuscular iron injection rarely has been reported in the literature before.
