Wearable Sleep and Circadian Monitoring in Intensive Care Nursing: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Sleep and circadian disruption are common in critical illness, yet bedside assessment remains difficult. Wearables are unobtrusive and extend observation across 24 h, but their measurement performance in critical illness requires appraisal. AIMS: To map wearable sleep and circadian monitoring during intensive care, its measurement performance, clinical applications and nursing implications. STUDY DESIGN: A scoping review followed JBI and PRISMA-ScR guidance. PubMed, Europe PMC and OpenAlex were searched from inception to 22 July 2026, with citation searching. Eligible primary rep

Impact of Nurse-Driven Analgesia and Sedation Protocols on Medication Exposure and Withdrawal in Critically Ill Children: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The administration of analgesia and sedation is essential for patients admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). However, over-sedation can cause side effects, including iatrogenic withdrawal syndrome (IWS). The use of nurse-led analgesia and sedation protocols may improve patient outcomes. AIM: The primary aim of this systematic review was to determine whether the use of such protocols can reduce opioid and benzodiazepine doses. Secondary outcome measures included documentation of pain and sedation scores, incidence of IWS, duration of mechanical ventilation (MV) and

Unveiling Hidden Trauma: A Cross-Sectional Study of Violence Exposure and Its Impacts on Entrapment, Self-Stigma and Empathic Care Among Psychiatric Nurses.

BACKGROUND: Psychiatric nurses often work in high-stress environments where they are frequently exposed to various forms of violence and aggression from patients. While the immediate physical consequences of violence are usually recognised, the psychological impacts, such as feelings of entrapment, self-stigma and diminished empathy, are less understood but equally critical. AIMS: This study aimed to fill this gap by examining how different forms of violence exposure affect entrapment, self-stigma and empathic care among psychiatric nurses, providing insights that can inform both practice and

Finding the Right Time to Discuss Advance Care Planning with Myeloma Patients and Their Carers: An Opportunity for Nursing.

PURPOSE: People with multiple myeloma are living longer with an incurable disease due to improved treatments. Despite advance care planning (ACP) and palliative care's focus on improving symptom management and quality of life, there remains a perception among patients and clinicians that palliative care is only for end-of-life care, leading to uncertainty around when to introduce these conversations. This study examines the lived experiences of myeloma patients and their carers, exploring their views as to when and how they would like to commence meaningful conversations around palliative and

A Rare Case of Frequent Ventricular Fibrillation After MitraClip Therapy: Nursing Strategies for Success.

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a common valvular heart disease and is associated with a high-surgical risk for older or comorbid patients. MitraClip therapy, a percutaneous mitral valve repair method, provides a safe and effective alternative to open-heart surgery and has been validated in real-world settings. To date, critical care nursing experience for MitraClip therapy remains limited. We aimed to present and discuss the critical care nursing experience of a patient with frequent ventricular fibrillation (VFiB) after MitraClip therapy. Case study. We reviewed and retrieved the necessary info

A Toolkit for Delirium Identification and Promoting Partnerships Between Carers and Nurses: A Pilot Pre-Post Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is frightening for people experiencing it and their carers, and it is the most common hospital-acquired complication worldwide. Delirium is associated with higher rates of morbidity, mortality, residential care home admission, dementia, and carer stress and burden, yet strategies to embed the prevention and management of delirium as part of standard hospital care remain challenging. Carers are well placed to recognize subtle changes indicative of delirium, and partner with nurses in the prevention and management of delirium. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate a Prevention & Early Del

Effect of the clinical decision assessment system on clinical outcomes of delirium in hospitalized older adults: study protocol for a pair-matched, parallel, cluster randomized controlled superiority trial.

BACKGROUND: Prompt recognition of delirium is the first key step in its proper management. A previous study has demonstrated that nurses' delirium screening using the usual paper version assessment tool has no effect on clinical outcomes. Clinical decision assessment systems have been demonstrated to improve patients' adherence and clinical outcomes. Therefore, We developed a clinical decision assessment system (3D-DST) based on the usual paper version (3-min diagnostic interview for CAM-defined delirium), which was developed for assessing delirium in older adults with high usability and accur
