PURPOSE: To characterize the clinical course of cataract wound dehiscence.
DESIGN: Retrospective, comparative case series.
METHODS: Charts of open globe injuries (848 injuries in 846 patients) treated surgically at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary between 2000 and 2009 were retrospectively reviewed. Time from original surgery to wound dehiscence, type of initial surgery, Ocular Trauma Score, age, gender, mechanism of injury, and visual acuity were analyzed.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of anakinra for severe and refractory scleritis.
METHODS: Ten patients with severe (i.e. at least 2 ocular relapses per year despite treatment) and refractory [i.e. at least to one disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS)] scleritis were treated with anakinra (100 mg/day subcutaneously). Scleritis was associated with inflammatory systemic diseases in 60% of cases. The remission rate defined the primary outcome.

The results of a two year survey of eye problems among the patients at the Palo Seco Hospital in the Canal Zone are presented. Only two patients, one classified as having lepromatous leprosy and the other as having the tuberculoid form of the disease, failed to exhibit ocular complications. The high prevalence of leprotic ocular disease (96%) is most probably due to the advanced age of the patients, the lengthy duration of their illness, and the high percentage of patients afflicted by the lepromatous form of the disease.

A four-year survey of all ocular trauma cases admitted to a large metropolitan eye hospital was conducted for the purpose of generally documenting ocular trauma and evaluating prophylactic, demographic and etiologic factors. Of 6254 eye admissions, 7.5% were for ocular trauma; hyphema was the most common diagnosis. Injuries were evaluated according to site, cause, and age, sex and race distribution.
