Patients in Burkina Faso who sought medical attention for febrile jaundice were tested for leptospirosis. We confirmed leptospirosis in 27 (3.46%) of 781 patients: 23 (2.94%) tested positive using serologic assays and 4 (0.51%) using LipL32 PCR. We further presumed leptospirosis in 16 (2.82%) IgM-positive specimens.

Murine typhus is a cause of fever of intermediate duration in the south of Spain, where antibodies against Rickettsia typhi and Rickettsia felis were observed in humans. This study presents the first report from the northeast of Spain. Human serum samples were tested by serological test. R. typhi and R. felis seroprevalences were 8.8% and 3.2%, respectively.

The anti-double-stranded (ds)DNA antibody test is an integral part of diagnosing systemic lupus erythematosus when the entry criterion is satisfied. We investigated the sensitivity of the BioPlex 2200 instrument compared with the serological gold standard and other tests and clinical information. The results showed an unacceptable sensitivity for this method. Laboratories should be cognizant of this shortcoming when selecting this platform for dsDNA antibody testing.
