Mental health outcomes, literacy and service provision in low- and middle-income settings: a systematic review of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the prevalence of mental health issues could be greater than in other low-income and middle-income countries because of major risk factors related to armed conflicts and poverty. Given that mental health is an essential component of health, it is surprising that no systematic evaluation of mental health in the DRC has yet been undertaken. This study aims to undertake the first systematic review of mental health literacy and service provision in the DRC, to bridge this gap and inform those who need to develop an evidence base. This could support po

[Consensus, hedonism: the characteristics of new family and their consequences for the development of children].

Over the last three decades, the marital family model described by Durkheim at the end of the nineteenth century has undergone numerous changes, e.g. questioning about the principle of authority, women emancipation, occurrence of the "new fathers", the growing influence of the media on the daily life of families, the less frequent and most precious child (due to the reduced number of children per family),... Through clinical, psychoanalytical and developmental models we, here, analyze these changes together with their impact on child. Historical and sociological approaches also allowed us to e

High awareness, moderate knowledge, and prevention-oriented practices regarding β-thalassemia among young adults in Palestine: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: β-Thalassemia is an inherited hemoglobin disorder caused by reduced or absent synthesis of the β-globin chain, leading to variable clinical severity and substantial lifelong health burden. Because prevention depends heavily on awareness, screening, and informed reproductive decision-making, understanding public knowledge, attitudes, and practices is essential for designing effective control strategies. METHODS: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2025 and January 2026 using a structured, self-administered Arabic questionnaire distributed online throu

Application of intersectionality framework and area-level indicators in machine learning analysis of depression disparities in all of us research program data.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Depression is a complex mental health disorder influenced by various social determinants of health (SDOH) at individual and community levels. Area-level indicators and the intersectionality framework, which considers overlapping personal identities, are used in this paper to get a nuanced picture of depression disparities. METHODS: This cross-sectional study uses electronic health records data from the All of Us research network. Our study cohort includes 33,994 individuals who completed the SDOH surveys in All of Us and had at least one inpatient visit, with 31.7% diagno

Child Developmental Patterns by Age 4 Years Across Subtypes of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy.

IMPORTANCE: Exposure to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) during the fetal stage has been linked to developmental delays in children. However, the associations between HDP subtypes and longitudinal patterns in child development remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the associations of HDP subtypes with child developmental patterns. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This study used data from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project Birth and Three-Generation Cohort Study, a prospective cohort study recruiting pregnant individuals in Japan between July 2013 and March 2017. Using Named Entity Recognition to Identify Substances Used in the Self-medication of Opioid Withdrawal: Natural Language Processing Study of Reddit Data.

BACKGROUND: The cessation of opioid use can cause withdrawal symptoms. People often continue opioid misuse to avoid these symptoms. Many people who use opioids self-treat withdrawal symptoms with a range of substances. Little is known about the substances that people use or their effects. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to validate a methodology for identifying the substances used to treat symptoms of opioid withdrawal by a community of people who use opioids on the social media site Reddit. METHODS: We developed a named entity recognition model to extract substances and effects from nea

Jail Health Care in the Southeastern United States From Entry to Release.

UNLABELLED: Policy Points As a consequence of mass incarceration and related social inequities in the United States, jails annually incarcerate millions of people who have profound and expensive health care needs. Resources allocated for jail health care are scarce, likely resulting in treatment delays, limited access to care, lower-quality care, unnecessary use of emergency medical services (EMS) and emergency departments (EDs), and limited services to support continuity of care upon release. Potential policy solutions include alternative models for jail health care oversight and financing, a

Interactions of Technology and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Symptomatology in Adults: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects 1%-3% of the population and is marked by intrusive obsessions and compulsive behaviors that impair daily functioning. As digital technologies have become ubiquitous, their features may interact with OCD symptom dimensions in ways that both exacerbate and alleviate symptoms. While case reports and clinical anecdotes suggest such interactions, systematic investigation of patients' lived experiences with technology remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore how individuals with OCD perceive and navigate their interactions with

Beyond V40.31: Narrative Phenomenology of Wandering in Autism and Dementia.

Research on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and on Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and other types of dementia describes a behaviour called 'wandering', a term that denotes movement through space lacking intention or exact destination, as when a person is disoriented or not self-aware. In the U.S., 'wandering' in both ASD and AD has been examined mostly from a management and prevention perspective. It prioritizes safety while primarily overlooking personal experiences of those who 'wander' and their families, thus limiting the range of potentially effective strategies to address this issue. Family intervention for schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: It has been found that people with schizophrenia from families that express high levels of criticism, hostility, or over involvement, have more frequent relapses than people with similar problems from families that tend to be less expressive of their emotions. Psychosocial interventions designed to reduce these levels of expressed emotions within families now exist. These interventions are proposed as adjuncts rather than alternatives to drug treatments and their main purpose is to decrease the stress within the family and also the rate of relapse. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the effe

Association Between Autism Severity, Parental Stress, and Parenting Styles in Indian Families of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Cross-Sectional Study.

PURPOSE: Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face persistent emotional, psychological, and social challenges. Cultural stigma and limited resources in India may add to this burden. This study examined the association between parental stress, parenting styles, and ASD severity in Indian families. METHODS: We recruited 63 parents of children aged 3-12 years with a clinically confirmed diagnosis of ASD (DSM-5 criteria) between November 2023 and January 2024 through Autism Community Support Groups. Of these, 60 were included in the final analysis after excluding three cases wi

How survivors of exploitation who use drugs navigate systems of care: an analysis of survivor insights using the intersectional risk environment.

BACKGROUND: Drug-related risks such as adverse health outcomes, overdose, and violent victimization vary across populations due to the marginalization of identities, structural inequities, and differing environments. Discrimination and criminalization exacerbate drug-related risks specifically for survivors of sexual exploitation who use drugs. This study aims to understand how survivors who are not currently utilizing intensive treatment services perceive their risk environment, including available resources, and identify possible mechanisms to address health equity. Emphasizing the role of h

The Relationship Between Depression and Quality of Life in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review: Lien entre dépression et qualité de vie chez les enfants et les adolescents : Une revue systématique.

ObjectiveMajor depressive disorder is a debilitating mental health issue that frequently emerges during childhood or adolescence. Although prior research has established the burden of depressive symptoms in young people, less is known about how depression affects quality of life (QoL), a multidimensional construct encompassing emotional, physical and social functioning. This systematic review aimed to systematically evaluate the association between depression and QoL in children and adolescents, with particular attention to domain-specific and informant effects.MethodFollowing Preferred Report
