Withdrawal-related threat sensitivity mediates associations between perceived rejection and loneliness: Divergent neural correlates in younger and older adults.

Perceived social rejection is a robust risk factor for loneliness across the lifespan; yet the psychological and neural mechanisms underlying this association may differ by age. This study investigated whether withdrawal-related threat sensitivity mediates the relationship between perceived rejection and loneliness in younger and older adults and whether distinct brain regions are associated with this pathway. A total of 249 participants (141 younger adults aged 18-34 years and 108 older adults aged 60-89 years) completed questionnaires assessing perceived rejection, withdrawal-related threat

Cyberbullying toolkit for adolescent mental health: assessment and intervention in a YMCA summer camp population.

INTRODUCTION: Cyberbullying is a growing public health concern among adolescents aged 11-14 and is associated with increased anxiety, depression, social isolation, and reduced self-efficacy. With widespread internet and social media use among adolescents, exposure to online aggression is common. Traditional school-based prevention programs often fail to reach community-based youth settings such as summer camps, creating a gap in early intervention and skill-building opportunities. Strengthening awareness, empathy, and reporting self-efficacy is essential to promoting safer online peer interact

Implementing an early supported discharge intervention to nursing homes and respite care centers after hip fracture: A qualitative study of staff experiences and field observations.

BACKGROUND: An enhanced standardized interdisciplinary cooperation (ESIC) model was introduced to improve collaboration between hospitals, nursing homes and respite care centers (NH-RCC) after hip fracture. It involved structured post-discharge care and 2-week extended hospital care, requiring new collaborative practices whose success depended on how NH-RCC staff perceived and enacted the intervention. METHODS: An ethnographically inspired design was applied, combining field observations and semi-structured interviews with Health and Social Care Personnel (HSCP) in 10 NH-RCCs until saturation

Geospatial Links Between Pediatric LRTI Acute Care Use and the Child Opportunity Index.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neighborhood social determinants influence pediatric acute care (AC) use, but their role in lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), the leading cause of pediatric hospitalization, is unclear. We mapped LRTI AC utilization and examined whether census tract-level Child Opportunity Index (COI) 3.0 scores were associated with LRTI hotspots, overall AC use, and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission. METHODS: In this retrospective single-center study, we identified children younger than 2 years receiving AC for LRTI from 2018 to 2023 in Franklin County, Ohio,

"It's part of getting old": ageing perceptions and cultural beliefs underpin hip recovery and refracture prevention experiences: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hip fractures are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, with significant consequences for recovery and refracture risk. While recovery experiences have been explored and interventions established, limited understanding exists of how individual, social and cultural factors influence engagement with recovery and secondary prevention in multicultural systems. We explored these factors among culturally diverse older adults and caregivers following low trauma hip fracture. METHODS: A qualitative study embedded within a prospective cohort at a metropoli

"What Do You Need?" Formative Research to Develop a Comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool for Infant and Young Child Nourishment and Care in the United States.

Background/Objectives: Despite substantial healthcare spending, U.S. mothers encounter fragmented support systems for infant feeding, care, and maternal mental health. While existing needs assessment instruments target parents of ill or preterm infants, no validated tool captures the full range of informational, psychosocial, and structural needs among mothers of healthy, full-term infants. This formative mixed-methods study sought to identify and prioritize maternal needs across multiple socioecological levels to guide the development of a comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool (MNAT).

An identity on guard: the impact of microaggressions on the professional identity formation of residents.

PURPOSE: The development of a strong professional identity in medicine has important consequences for patient care, as proper identity formation impacts a physician's confidence, wellbeing, and performance. In non-medical professions, exposure to discrimination and stigma impacts how individuals construct their professional identity. Our study aims to explore how microaggressions from peers impact the professional identity formation of resident physicians. This work was guided by conceptual frameworks on professional identity formation that included socialization, role modelling, and hierarchi

Exploring the workload of informal caregiving in the context of HIV/NCD multimorbidity in South Africa.

The importance of informal caregiving for chronic illness has been well established in African contexts but is underexplored in the context of HIV/NCD multimorbidity, particularly in South Africa. Building on treatment burden theories that investigate workload in the context of chronic illness, this paper explores how informal caregiving networks impact the capacity of people living with multimorbidity (PLWMM) in low-income settings in urban and rural South Africa. Qualitative semi-structured interviews were carried out with thirty people living with multimorbidity and sixteen informal caregiv

Examining Physicians' Approaches to Treating Relatives in Primary Health Care Centers: Insights from a Qualitative Study.

Introduction: Family medicine physicians take care of a diverse population of patients with a variety of acute and chronic diseases. These patients include family, friends, and acquaintances who may ask for direct medical care or help in accessing healthcare products and services within or outside of officially approved procedures. This is ethically challenging due to an ambiguous medical code of ethics, but it is commonly accepted as normal behavior by society. The aim of this study was to explore family medicine physicians' perspectives regarding the benefits, difficulties, and ethics of res
