Evidence is presented that innate microstrabismus and abnormal cortical visual receptive-field properties can occur also in cats without any apparent involvement of the Siamese or albino genetic abnormalities in their visual system. A possible cause for microstrabismus in these cats may be sought in an abnormally large horizontal distance between blind spot and area centralis indicated by a temporal displacement of the most central receptive fields on both retinae. Eight children with the fetal alcohol syndrome are described with ocular anomalies. They all had a strong history of maternal alcohol abuse throughout pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. All the children had eye abnormalities. These included external eye lesions, Peters' anomaly, lens opacification, ocular motility disorders, and optic nerve hypoplasia.

The series consists of 12,059 children followed-up since their mothers' pregnancy. Of these children, 5.2 percent had visited an ophthalmological department during their first five years. PURPOSE: The information about superior rectus (SR) recession in cases with SR contracture coexisting with superior oblique palsy (SOP) is very limited in previous literature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of SR recession, as a combined procedure with inferior oblique (IO) disinsertion, in long-standing SOP with secondary SR contracture.

Ocular neuromyotonia (ONM) is a rare but distinctive clinical entity characterized by involuntary episodic contraction of one or more muscles supplied by the ocular motor nerves. PURPOSE: To investigate whether orthoptic exercises are an effective way to influence the near point of convergence, fusion range and asthenopic symptoms.
METHODS: Seventy-eight patients met the inclusion criteria of visual acuity 6/9 or better, no history of orthoptic treatment, squint surgery or Meares Irlen syndrome/dyslexia. Information was collected from case records related to diagnosis, near point of convergence, fusion range, prism and cover test measurements and symptoms.
