Hybrid interpenetrating hydrogel network favoring the bidirectional migration of tenocytes for rotator cuff tendon regeneration.

Replenishment of tenocytes to the injury site is an ideal strategy to improve healing response and accelerate the tendon ECM regeneration. The present study focused on the synthesis and characterization of a hybrid hydrogel scaffold system poly(propylene-fumarate)-alginate-polyvinyl alcohol-acrylic acid (PAPA) using poly(propylene-fumarate) (PPF), alginate, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and acrylic acid and the in vitro investigation of bidirectional mobility of swine shoulder tenocytes (SST) for its potential application in rotator-cuff tendon regeneration. IR analysis revealed the presence of algi

Determinants of regeneration and strength of hamstrings after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction-fate of hamstring tendon.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Arthroscopic reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgical procedure using hamstring autograft is the most common surgery performed in the arena of sports medicine and arthroscopy. Most studies in literature are ambiguous regarding the fate of hamstrings based on function, regenerative potential, and cross-sectional area (CSA). The aim of this research study is analysis of the fate of hamstring tendons (both semitendinosus and gracilis) during the time course for determinants of regeneration and strength. METHODS: Fifty patients who were operated for unilater…

[Analysis on muscle force and injured femoral reduction force based on new muscle tendon model].

Robot-assisted fracture reduction usually involves fixing the proximal end of the fracture and driving the distal end of the fracture to the proximal end in a planned reduction path. In order to improve the accuracy and safety of reduction surgery, it is necessary to know the changing rule of muscle force and reduction force during reduction. Fracture reduction force was analyzed based on the muscle force of femoral. In this paper, a femoral skeletal muscle model named as PA-MTM was presented based on the four elements of skeletal muscle model. With this, pinnate angle of the skeletal muscle w

Duration of immobilisation after Achilles tendon rupture repair by open surgery: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The best treatment for acute Achilles tendon ruptures remains controversial. No cohort studies have compared different immobilisation durations after open surgery. This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the optimal duration of immobilisation after this surgery. METHODS: A total of 266 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were divided into 4 groups (A, B, C, and D) according to immobilisation duration of 0, 2, 4, and 6 weeks, respectively. All patients underwent the same suture technique with a similar rehabilitation protocol and were examined clinically at 2, 4,

Bilateral triceps tendon approach is flexible and efficient in the treatment of type C distal humerus fractures.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess and compare elbow range of motion, triceps extension strength and functional results of type C (AO/OTA) distal humerus fractures treated with bilateral triceps tendon (BTT) approach and olecranon osteotomy (OO). At the same time, we are also trying to know whether BTT approach can provide sufficient vision for comminuted intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus, and whether it is convenient to convert to the treatment to total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) or OO. METHODS: Patients treated with OO and BTT approaches for type C distal humerus f

Bi-fated tendon-to-bone attachment cells are regulated by shared enhancers and KLF transcription factors.

The mechanical challenge of attaching elastic tendons to stiff bones is solved by the formation of a unique transitional tissue. Here, we show that murine tendon-to-bone attachment cells are bi-fated, activating a mixture of chondrocyte and tenocyte transcriptomes, under regulation of shared regulatory elements and Krüppel-like factors (KLFs) transcription factors. High-throughput bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing of humeral attachment cells revealed expression of hundreds of chondrogenic and tenogenic genes, which was validated by in situ hybridization and single-molecule ISH. ATAC sequenci…

Is there a relationship between muscle-tendon properties and a variety of functional tasks in children with spastic cerebral palsy?

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common motor and movement disability in childhood. The mechano-morphological alterations of the spastic muscle itself as well as the functional limitations in CP are well documented. However, the relationship between muscle tendon properties and functional tests in CP remains unknown. RESEARCH QUESTION: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between spastic muscle mechano-morphological properties and functional performance in children with CP. METHODS: This study included retrospective data from 22 children with spastic cerebral pals

Substantial Achilles adaptation following strength training has no impact on tendon function during walking.

Tendons are responsive to mechanical loading and their properties are often the target of intervention programs. The tendon's mechanical properties, particularly stiffness, also govern its function, therefore changes to these properties could have substantial influence on energy-saving mechanisms during activities utilizing the stretch-shortening cycle. We investigated Achilles tendon (AT) function in vivo during walking with respect to a training intervention that elicited significant increases in AT stiffness. 14 men and women completed 12-weeks of isometric plantarflexor strength training t…

Intra-articular long head of the biceps tendon: magnetic resonance-arthrography classification and review of literature.

PURPOSE: Anatomical variants of the long head of the biceps (LHB) and diseases of the rotator interval structures may contribute to shoulder instability. The rotator interval and the LHB tendon are closely associated anatomic structures that confer stability to the shoulder. Anatomical variants around the origins of the long head of the biceps (LHB) are reported to occur with a frequency of 1.9-7.4%. In the past years, many authors have proposed different approaches for the identification and characterization of LHB and rotators interval. Magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography is considered the

Flexor tendon rupture after volar plating of distal radius fracture: A systematic review of the literature.

Flexor tendon rupture after volar plate fixation of distal radius fracture (DRF) is rare. There is no consensus as to how to prevent them. The aim of our study was to identify the pathological mechanisms, and to establish the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients suffering from this complication. We carried out a systematic review using the PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane databases. Studies were included if they described complete or partial flexor tendon rupture following volar plate fixation of DRF. Forty-six 46 were included, for a total of 145 patients were reported: 138 from the li

"Staged Reconstruction of Chronic Patella Alta with Ilizarov fixator and Achilles Tendon Allograft: A Case report".

INTRODUCTION: Posterior glenohumeral joint dislocations with associated bony lesions are challenging to treat; namely, reverse Hill-Sachs's lesions increase humeral head excursion predisposing to recurrent dislocations. To add to the complexity of management, posterior shoulder dislocations are often missed on plain radiographs, leading to chronicity in presentation. CASE REPORT: We describe here our technique in our case series of three patients. Case I, 32 years, gentleman, presented 3 days after injury. He had a locked posterior dislocation of shoulder which he sustained while he fell asle

Imaging Evaluation of Medial and Lateral Elbow Pain: Acute and Chronic Tendon Injuries of the Humeral Epicondyles.

Medial and lateral elbow pain are often due to degenerative tendinosis and less commonly due to trauma. The involved structures include the flexor-pronator tendon origin in medial-sided pain and the extensor tendon origin in lateral-sided pain. Multimodality imaging is often obtained to verify the clinically suspected diagnosis, evaluate the extent of injury, and guide treatment decisions. Image-guided procedures can provide symptom relief to support physical therapy and also induce tendon healing. Surgical debridement and repair are typically performed in refractory cases, resulting in good t
