Infraorbital Swelling Induced by an Inadvertent Local Anesthesia Technique in a Six-Year-Old Female Child: A Clinical Case Report.

Local anesthesia (LA) plays a crucial role in managing pain during dental procedures, but its administration must be handled with care, particularly in children, where complications are not uncommon. This report presents a case involving a six-year-old girl who had a broken upper right first molar due to decay for the past three months. An extraction was planned under LA. Following the infiltration technique of LA administration using 2% lignocaine solution with 1:80,000 adrenaline, swelling appeared in the right infraorbital region almost immediately. The swelling resulted from inadvertent de

Noninvasive Framework Nucleic Acid Eye Drops for Retinal Administration.

Intravitreal injection is widely employed for the treatment of retinal diseases. However, it suffers from various drawbacks, including ocular trauma, risk of infection, and poor patient compliance due to frequent administrations. Due to the presence of barriers such as the cornea, it has been a challenge to develop efficient noninvasive ophthalmic eye drops that can reach the retina. Framework nucleic acids (FNAs), known for their excellent biocompatibility and precise, controllable shape and size, have been extensively utilized in drug delivery application. Here, we report the development of

Atropine-Induced Anticholinergic Syndrome Following Off-Label Sublingual Administration for Refractory Sialorrhea: A Case Report.

A sublingual atropine ophthalmic solution is increasingly used as an off-label therapy for the symptomatic management of refractory sialorrhea because of its rapid onset of action, ease of administration, and generally favourable safety profile when used at recommended doses. Although generally well-tolerated at therapeutic doses, systemic anticholinergic toxicity may occur following medication administration errors or unintentional overdose. We report the case of a 76-year-old man with recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma receiving palliative systemic therapy who presented with acu

Optimization of the Retinal Vein Occlusion Mouse Model to Limit Variability.

Mouse models of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) are often used in ophthalmology to study hypoxic-ischemic injury in the neural retina. In this report, a detailed method pointing out critical steps is provided with recommendations for optimization to achieve consistently successful occlusion rates across different genetically modified mouse strains. The RVO mouse model consists primarily of the intravenous administration of a photosensitizer dye followed by laser photocoagulation using a retinal imaging microscope attached to an ophthalmic guided laser. Three variables were identified as determina

Management of varicella zoster infections in immunocompetent hosts.

Varicella in otherwise healthy children usually requires no antiviral treatment. In severe cases, however, such as are seen in neonates and adults, treatment must be given. Anecdotal evidence suggests the efficacy of intravenous acyclovir in such patients. Herpes zoster in immunocompetent patients may be severe enough to warrant antiviral therapy, particularly in elderly patients. Both idoxuridine and acyclovir have been investigated in placebo-controlled double-blind studies. Due to its low toxicity, ease of administration, and the possibility of systemic administration, acyclovir has largely
