The possibility for patch testing procedures to detect contact allergy was examined in 85 hospitalized patients with forms of psoriasis. Exclusion criteria were active lesions on the back, the use of strong topical corticosteroids, methotrexate, cyclosporin and UV therapy. Since 1990 7 sunscreen allergens have been included in the standard photopatch protocol at 2 Swedish dermatology clinics. 355 consecutive patients with suspected photosensitivity were tested, and in 28 of these (7.9%), a total of 42 allergic reactions were found. 80% of the reactions were of photocontact origin. Prick tests were performed with "pneumallergerns" (mites, cereal dusts, animal dander, pollens, moulds--totalling 35 allergens) among 742 agricultural workers of the Meuse department (North East of France) as part of an epidemiological study on respiratory and immuno-allergological problems. Atopic sensitization was studied using skin tests on 93 randomly selected, non-smoking dairy farmers. The farmers lived in the municipality of Pielavesi, in eastern Finland.
