The value of angiography in diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum: case report.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract and usually produces no symptoms, although the classic symptom is painless rectal bleeding in a child. Because most symptomatic diverticula in children contain ectopic gastric tissue, radionuclide imaging using a technetium 99m pertechnetate scan is considered to be the method of choice. However, a bleeding Meckel's diverticulum may not be detected by pertechnetate imaging despite the presence of ectopic gastric mucosa. When the scan is negative, visceral angiography is an alternative procedure for detecting Meckel'

Dual origin of the vertebral artery--case report.

A 27-year-old female presented with dual origin of the left vertebral artery. Twenty-six cases of this rare congenital vascular anomaly have been reported. In general, the medial leg of the dual origin of the vertebral artery enters a higher transverse foramen (usually the fifth or less frequently the fourth) than the lateral leg, which usually enters the sixth. Exceptions to this rule occur when the medial and lateral legs of the right vertebral artery enter the right seventh and sixth transverse foramina, respectively. This congenital vascular anomaly has diagnostic and therapeutic implicati

Evaluation of carotid stenosis using CT angiography in the initial evaluation of stroke and TIA.

BACKGROUND: Imaging of the carotid arteries is important for the evaluation of patients with ischemic stroke or TIA. CT angiography (CTA) of the head and neck is readily available and can be part of the routine imaging of stroke patients. To evaluate the accuracy of CTA, the authors compared the degree of stenosis found using CTA with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in consecutive patients during a 3-year period. METHODS: The authors included all patients with interpretable CTA and DSA of the cervical carotid arteries from April 2000 to November 2002 at a single academic medical center.

Noninvasive assessment of the circle of Willis in cerebral ischemia: the potential of CT angiography and contrast-enhanced transcranial color-coded duplexsonography.

Thirty-four patients with acute hemispheric ischemic strokes underwent both CT angiography and contrast-enhanced transcranial color-coded duplexsonography (TCCD) to study the effectiveness of the combined noninvasive techniques for evaluation of the circle of Willis. In 3/34 patients, CT angiography and contrast-enhanced TCCD demonstrated middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion, in 5 others MCA stenosis. A severe posterior cerebral artery stenosis was missed by CT angiography. In 8 patients, contrast-enhanced TCCD failed because of poor bone windows. In these patients, CT angiography was normal

[Angiography in vasculitis].

The method of angiography in vasculitis has recently been changed due to the development of digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Intra-venous DSA is widely used in the diagnosis of vasculitis, although intra-arterial DSA is needed for depicting small vessel lesions. Low-osmolality contrast medium is another advancement in the angiography of vasculitis, which can make peripheral angiography painless. We discussed angiographic features in vasculitis diseases, including Takayasu arteritis, Buerger disease, moyamoya disease, and vasculo-Behçet disease. Angiography is the most important in order

Dural Arteriovenous Fistula Between the Inferolateral Trunk and Cavernous Sinus Draining to Ophthalmic Vein.

BACKGROUND: Formation of a dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) between the inferolateral trunk (ILT) and cavernous sinus (CS) is rare. CASE DESCRIPTION: This study presents a case of ILT-CS DAVF. A 64-year-old male patient had exophthalmos of the left eye with redness and swelling. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a connection between the ILT and the CS that formed a high-flow DAVF, which was drained only to the ophthalmic vein and no other parts of the CS. The ILT was chosen as the transarterial path for treatment because it was enlarged. The microcatheter was navigated into the ILT,

Management for carotid body paragangliomas.

The carotid body tumor is a rare neoplasm that has generated much literature over the last century, and for which continued controversy exists regarding natural history, biologic behavior, proper technique of excision, and the risk of morbidity and mortality. The present study reviewed a 16-year experience of managing carotid body paraganglioma (CBP) between 1988 and 2004. There were 10 consecutive patients aged between 18-42 years with tumors and median follow-up was 10 years. Preoperative information was derived from spiral CT scanning, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), color Doppler imaging

Subarachnoid heamorrhage-induced chronic cerebral vasospasm in the rabbit: IV-DSA versus IA-DSA.

BACKGROUND: Chronic cerebral vasospasm is delayed-onset cerebral arterial narrowing in response to blood clots left in the subarachnoid space after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). Rabbit models of vasospasm have been developed as in vivo experimental pathogenesis and the treatments of cerebral vasospasm using human vessels are not possible. The present study assessed the diagnostic accuracy of the intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV-DSA) in chronic cerebral arterial spasm following induced SAH in the rabbit. METHOD: Ten rabbits' left leg veins catheterised by intravascu

Lodged Thrombus: A Pitfall for Diagnosing Carotid Web Using Contrast-Angiography.

Carotid web, a form of fibromuscular dysplasia, involves a thin, membrane-like tissue in the carotid bulb that can cause thrombus formation and is linked to cryptogenic ischemic stroke. Diagnosis typically relies on detecting a shelf-like filling defect in digital subtraction angiography or 3D-CT angiography. We report a case of the symptomatic carotid web that could not be diagnosed using DSA or 3D-CT angiography due to a lodged thrombus but was successfully identified through carotid ultrasonography. A 44-year-old woman with a history of subarachnoid hemorrhage developed left hemiparesis and

Angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage in the era of three dimensional rotational angiography.

BACKGROUND: Three dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) is a powerful method for depicting intracranial vascular lesions because of its 3D imaging capability. The purpose of this study was to analyse if 3DRA had reduced the incidence of angiogram-negative subarchnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and which type of aneurysm tended to be overlooked with conventional digital subtraction angiography. METHOD: Angiogram-negative SAH was defined as present in those patients with SAH who had no demonstrable lesion revealed by more than two adequate cerebral angiograms. From January 1, 1992, to December 31, 2

Hypereosinophilic syndrome complicated by severe vascular damage and gangrene.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a complex multisystem disease characterized by sustained overproduction of eosinophils. A 40-year-old woman presented with digital ischemia and gangrene on her distal fingers and toes. We diagnosed HES on the basis of marked eosinophilia, accumulation of eosinophils in organs, and cutaneous eosinophilic vasculitis after having excluded all differential diagnoses. On digital subtraction angiography, occlusion of several arteries of both lower legs was noted. HES may be associated with severe vascular damage including gangrene. The occurrence of digital gangre

Rescue Stenting Using Neuroform Atlas Stent During Coiling Protrusion for Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysms.

BACKGROUND: Endovascular coiling is generally considered as an effective treatment option for ruptured intracranial aneurysms. Increasing operator experience and quality of tools determined an improvement of endovascular cerebral aneurysms' treatment. However, procedure-related complications still occur. The purpose of this study is to report a series of rescue stenting procedures with the Neuroform Atlas (NA) open-cell stent, for intraprocedural complications during coil embolization in patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms. METHODS: Between April 2016 and January 2018, 12 consecutiv
