The active duty military population serving within aviation-related specialties is generally considered healthy. Our patient revealed a history of closed head trauma at age 15, with no other complaints. A deliberate and comprehensive multidisciplinary clinical evaluation using electrodiagnostic apparatus, MRI and automated visual fields enabled us to diagnose two separate, yet interesting pathological conditions in an apparently healthy individual. The first detected objective pathological finding was that of dispersed micronodules in the lungs seen in a chest radiograph. Tuberous sclerosis (TS) is a multisystem disorder characterized by hamartomas in various organs. It usually manifests itself during infancy or childhood with neurological features, including mental retardation and seizures. A cohort mortality study was conducted of male aerial pesticide applicators and flight instructors identified from computerized Federal Aviation Administration medical examination records from 1965-1979. Vital status of 9,677 applicators and 9,727 instructors was determined through January 1, 1980, and standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) were calculated.
