Pyridine acylhydrazone derivatives of isopimaric acid were synthesized and characterized. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the compounds against five bacteria were determined and most of the compounds displayed some degree of antibacterial activity. A series of Pt(IV) prodrugs has been obtained by oxidative halogenation of either cisplatin or carboplatin. We report an asymmetric 1,2-reduction of cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones to access various enantiomerically enriched cyclic allylic alcohols under mild conditions, catalyzed by in situ generated copper hydride ligated with (R)-DTBM-C3*-TunePhos. α-Brominated cycloalkenones were reduced with excellent enantioselectivities of up to 98% ee, while substrates that were without α-substituents were reduced chemoselectively, with moderate enantioselectivities.

This release kills retained bacteria and offers a significant advantage over conventional physical filters.

Regulated trihalomethanes have historically been an indicator of haloacetonitriles; however, differences in precursors, disinfectants used, and network variability reduce the reliability of trihalomethanes as an indicator for toxicity.
