Altered capillary permeability in neurogenic pulmonary oedema.

Two cases of fatal neurogenic pulmonary oedema are depicted. The hemodynamic study failed to document any hypertensive crisis or pulmonary hypertension. By contrast, the low values of pulmonary capillary wedge pressures and the high protein concentration in tracheal fluid suggest a pulmonary capillary wall lesion.

Capillary sclerosis of the urinary tract and analgesic nephropathy.

Morphology, frequency and significance of capillary sclerosis (CS) in the ureter and electron microscopic findings in early papillary necrosis are described. CS of the urinary tract is characterized by a thickening of the basement membrane of capillaries lying just underneath the urothelium. The basement membrane changes can be demonstrated by PAS, Sudan stain and autofluorescence with equal reliability. By electron microscopy the thickened basement membranes exhibit a tree ring like pattern permeated by lipid vacuoles. CS is most often present in the renal pelvis and the ureter and only in pa…

[Changes in capillary circulation in hypertension of different etiology].

Contact microscopy was used to examine the state of capillary blood flow in the oral cavity mucosa in renal hypertension and in essential hypertension. Simultaneously some of biochemical parameters which influence aggregation of red blood cells were determined (lipids, globulins, fibrinogen content, presence of fibrinogen B in the blood, fibrinolytic and heparin activity of blood plasma). Along with the similarity of the capillaroscopy picture of the blood in both types of hypertension there have been revealed differences which together with other indicators can be applied to differential diag

[Capillary and central serum bilirubin: reliability of values].

At the Servicio de Medicina Perinatal Pediátrica of the Centro Hospitalario "20 de Noviembre" of the ISSSTE, 141 samples of bilirubin were obtained from 47 icteric newborns within the first 72 hours of hospitalization. Determinations were made for total serum bilirubin, indirect and total capillary bilirubins. The results obtained were submitted to analysis of plain linear regression followed by determination of correlation coefficient to establish statistical reliability. The capillary samples showed a greater statistical reliability by a lesser dispersion index. The determination of capillar

Alveolar-capillary oxygen disequilibrium in hepatic cirrhosis.

Hypoxemia is a frequent occurrence in patients with severe hepatic disease. Multiple mechanisms have been implicated in the production of su … Post-mortem examination demonstrated normal pulmonary parenchyma, markedly dilated intraparenchymal capillaries and arterioles, subpleural angiomata, and cirrhosis. No anatomic arteriovenous connections were demonstrated before or after death. We conclude that the arterial hypoxemia of some patients with hepatic cirrhosis results from dilated gas-exchanging b …

Capillary basement membrane width in diabetic children.

The effect of juvenile onset diabetes mellitus on quadriceps muscle capillary basement membrane (QCBM) width has been examined by the electron microscopic morphometric method previously developed in this laboratory. The results demonstrate that in this age group QCBM thickening is strongly related to the age of the diabetic subject. As a result, in contrast to the almost constant thickening of QCBM that has consistently been documented in diabetic adults, QCBM hypertrophy is present in only 40 per cent of children with diabetes mellitus. As was previously shown to be the case in adults, in chi

Changes in lung capillary permeability in renal failure.

Excess fluid in the lung can be quantified in chronic dialysis patients by using the double indicator dilution technique. The lung capillaries show an increased permeability to sodium when these patents develop pulmonary oedema.

In-capillary enzymatic digestion beyond trypsin for the sensitive targeted bottom-up analysis of protein biomarkers by capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry.

BACKGROUND: Targeted bottom-up proteomics is of great interest for the straightforward, accurate, and sensitive measurement of specific protein biomarkers from surrogate peptide fragments. However, this approach typically relies on off-line enzymatic digestion with trypsin, a time-consuming step that may be inadequate for covering certain sequence regions containing important post-translational modifications (PTMs). RESULTS: In this study, we present an in-line enzymatic digestion strategy for the targeted bottom-up analysis of α-synuclein (α-syn), which is a protein biomarker of Parkinson's

[Rapid Detection of Adenovirus in Fecal Samples by Capillary Electrophoresis-laser Induced Fluorescence and Microchip Capillary Electrophoresis-laser Induced Fluorescence].

OBJECTIVE: To establish a rapid and sensitive method based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) combined with capillary electrophoresis-laser induced fluorescence (CE-LIF) and microchip capillary electrophoresis-laser induced fluorescence (MCE-LIF) for detecting adenoviruses in fecal samples. METHODS: The DNA of adenovirus in fecal samples were extracted by the commercial kits and the conserved region of hexon gene was selected as the target gene and amplified by PCR reaction. After labeling highly sensitive nucleic acid fluorescent dye SYBR Gold and SYBR Orange respectively, PCR amplification

The potential of capillary birthmarks as a significant marker for capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation syndrome in children who had nontraumatic cerebral hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation (CM-AVM) is a new autosomal dominant disorder with cutaneous capillary malformations (CM) and high-flow cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVM). Patients may have Parkes-Weber syndrome. This study determined if cutaneous CM are a significant indicator of CM-AVM in children with cerebral bleeds. METHODS: Children with cerebral AVMs between 1991 and 2009 were reviewed. A family history of brain hemorrhage, AVMs, or cutaneous birthmarks was elicited. Patients and siblings were examined for CM and a family tree recorded. A b
