Electric arc filter dust (EAF dust) is a waste by-product which occurs in the production of steel. Instead of being disposed of, it can be used in cement composites for civil engineering, and for balances in washing machines. The retrospective assessment of morbidity rates and cancer pathology risks in workers of asbestosis-cement enterprises of Ukraine has been made. It was established that annual cancer morbidity among workers makes 88,1 per 100 000 of workers (RR = 0.26, CI 95 % 0.06-1.01). Eighteen patients with Colles fractures, mean age 70 years (range 55-91), were treated by intramedullary bone cementing. The best indication for this technique was an unstable extra-articular Colles fracture with osteoporosis. In a proximal humerus resection for a bone tumor, the use of an osteoarticular allograft is considered the best restoration of shoulder function. We retrospectively reviewed the outcomes of 31 patients who had an intraarticular resection of the proximal humerus for a bone tumor. Twenty-three of the allografts were filled with cement. The deposition of a subcutaneous cement tract is a potential complication of percutaneous vertebroplasty. These tracts can be a source of pain and tenderness for the patient. We describe a case of symptomatic cement deposition within a needle tract in the subcutaneous tissues that required surgical removal, and we describe a technique to prevent this complication in a second patient, by using needle redirection to cut across the cement core.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: We assessed outcome after total hip arthroplasty (THA) using a dual metaphyseal-diaphyseal modular femoral stem with hydroxyapatite coating on the metaphyseal portion only. Implanted without cement, this stem was adaptable to all the anatomic morphotypes defined by the Noble canal flare index.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: THA was performed in 116 patients (124 hips), mainly for degenerative joint disease (80% for dysplasia). Mean age was 61.2 years. Follow-up was 6.9 years (72-108 months).
RESULTS: There were no preoperative complications excepting 3 cases of neck fissuration
