Faricimab for choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to choroidal osteoma: A case report.

Choroidal osteoma is a rare, benign ossifying tumor of the choroid. As the disease progresses, significant visual loss may occur. Approximately one-third of patients with choroidal osteoma develop a choroidal neovascular membrane. Choroidal neovascular membrane-associated exudation and photoreceptor disruption can lead to progressive visual decline. However, no established standard treatment exists, particularly for choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to choroidal osteoma. A healthy male in his 30s with known bilateral choroidal osteomas presented with metamorphopsia and decreased vision

Sclerochoroidal calcification as an incidental finding during oncological staging of a patient with parotid malignancy: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Incidental finding of mass lesion in the choroid represents a very challenging situation for the ophthalmologist. We describe a case of an incidental, computed tomography (CT)-hyperintense, choroidal lesion in a patient with parotid malignancy and renal failure, and how multimodal imaging helped us reaching the correct diagnosis. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 63-year-old man with parotid gland malignancy was brought to our attention because preoperative staging CT showed a hyperintense choroidal lesion of the right eye. Fundus examination showed a yellow elevated lesion near the superior

Wide-angle indocyanine green angiography.

BACKGROUND: Evaluation of the vasculature and blood flow in the fundus is limited by the small field of view of conventional fundus cameras. We sought to develop an easy method to image wide areas of the fundus. METHODS: Wide-angle contact fundus lenses with antireflective coatings in the infrared range were placed on the eye and indocyanine green angiography was done on the fundus through the contact lenses. More than 50 patients with varying fundus pathology have been examined. RESULTS: The angular field of view using this method can reach 160 degrees. Obtaining angiograms where the field

Orbital exenteration 14years after evisceration for misdiagnosed choroidal melanoma.

We present a case of orbital recurrence of choroidal melanoma 14years post-evisceration. Initially misdiagnosed as trauma-related, the patient's condition progressed, leading to neovascular glaucoma and retinal detachment. Subsequent pain and complications prompted evisceration without a pathological evaluation. Fourteen years later, an orbital mass was identified, leading to an orbital exenteration. This case demonstrates the potential for long-term local-regional recurrence of choroidal melanoma and highlights the importance of thorough examination and pathological evaluation in cases of a p

Choroidal metastasis from gastric cancer: A case report and review of the literature.

Choroidal metastatic tumours from gastric cancer (GC) are rare compared with breast and lung cancer. Here, we report a patient with GC who presented to our ophthalmology clinic with a one-week history of left eye visual disorder and pain. Fundoscopic and B-scan examinations suggested a choroidal metastatic tumour. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans confirmed our initial diagnosis. Histopathology and immunohistochemical findings showed the tumour most likely originated from the gastrointestinal tract. Although the patient was well after eye removal, he died two

Doctor reported outcomes: Real-world data from a tertiary eye cancer center.

PURPOSE: To provide real-world data on the world-wide-web for patient and doctor awareness. METHODS: From December 2017 to January 2020, consecutive patients with choroidal melanoma (CM), iris ciliary body melanoma (ICM), and ocular surface squamous carcinoma (OSSC) had specific outcomes recorded at each return visit. Each result was anonymized, entered in an online portal, and sent to a unique software program where it was used to create real-world data of number of patients, mean vision, local tumor control, eye salvage, systemic metastases, and length of follow-up for our eye cancer center

UVEAL MELANOMA IN A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL. CASE REPORT.

Uveal melanoma is the most common intraocular tumour in adults, it is a form of cancer that affects mostly older adults, as the average age at detection of this tumour is 60 years, but it can occur in any age group with no significant gender difference. However, uveal melanoma is very rare in children compared to the adult population, accounting for 1 % of all cases. In pediatric patients, malignant uveal melanoma is more frequently manifested during puberty, leading to speculation of an association between uveal melanoma and growth hormone levels. Prognostic factors for uveal melanoma include

Fulminant evolution in one case of choroidal melanoma - predictive factors for general metastasis.

Comparing with other malignant tumors, uveal melanomas determine tardive general spreading. Even in the absence of local treatment, general metastasis is less than 20%, in the first five years, many factors being involved. This paper present a particular case of choroid melanoma with very unusual and unpredictable evolution of the disease; the high growth of tumor size (in only half year the tumor almost doubled up dimensions), was associated with hepatic metastasis developed in only several months. In our opinion, this case, presenting a very atypical evolution may contribute to increase our

Pigmented choroidal nevus in a child with oculocutaneous albinism.

We report the case of an 8-year-old white girl with albinism and a flat pigmented choroidal lesion in the left eye measuring 0.5 mm in diameter. There was no subretinal fluid, lipofuscin, or drusen. The patient later displayed 10 lightly-pigmented cutaneous nevi on her upper chest, left arm, and right leg at 8 months' follow-up. The choroidal nevus showed minimal change over 2 years.

Bilateral uveal melanoma presenting simultaneously.

A case of bilateral uveal melanoma in a 54-year-old man is described. On admission of the patient for a choroidal melanoma of the left eye, an asymptomatic ciliary-body tumour was detected in his right eye. A thorough general examination did not reveal any metastases. The left eye was enucleated and local excision of the tumour in the right eye was performed 2 months later. Histology confirmed the presence of malignant melanomas in both eyes. The tumours were of similar A/B spindle-cell type. The patient remained healthy, showing no sign of metastasis or local recurrence of melanoma 9 months a

Multiple choroidal metastasis from bronchial carcinoid treated with photocoagulation and proton beam irradiation.

A 23-year-old man had bilateral multiple choroidal lesions eight years after removal of a bronchial carcinoid tumor. Choroidal biopsy confirmed that the clinical diagnosis and conventional radiotherapy to one eye resulted in rubeosis iridis, neovascular glaucoma, cataract, and vitreous hemorrhage. We were able to destroy the tumors in the other eye by photocoagulation and proton beam irradiation without any adverse effects. The patient is in good health 1 1/2 years after therapy and he has 6/6 (20/20) vision in the eye that was treated.

Choroidal Metastases From Cutaneous Melanoma.

A 92-year-old man presented with months of progressive blurry vision, worsening acutely in his right eye. He denied pain, diplopia, or photopsias. His history was significant for multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, and malignant melanoma of his right shoulder treated with local excision. He had local recurrence with hepatic metastasis of the melanoma treated with radiation and chemotherapy. On examination, his visual acuity was counting fingers in the right eye and 20/60 in the left eye. Amsler grid testing demonstrated metamorphopsia in the right eye. Fundus exam of the right and left eyes rev

Superior parietal lobule approach for choroid plexus papillomas without preoperative embolization in very young children.

OBJECT Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare neoplasms, often found in the atrium of the lateral ventricle of infants, and cause overproduction hydrocephalus. The extensive vascularity and medially located blood supply of these tumors, coupled with the young age of the patients, can make prevention of blood loss challenging. Preoperative embolization has been advocated to reduce blood loss and prevent the need for transfusion, but this mandates radiation exposure and the additional risks of vessel injury and stroke. For these reasons, the authors present their experience using the superior

Disruption of GMNC-MCIDAS multiciliogenesis program is critical in choroid plexus carcinoma development.

Multiciliated cells (MCCs) in the brain reside in the ependyma and the choroid plexus (CP) epithelia. The CP secretes cerebrospinal fluid that circulates within the ventricular system, driven by ependymal cilia movement. Tumors of the CP are rare primary brain neoplasms mostly found in children. CP tumors exist in three forms: CP papilloma (CPP), atypical CPP, and CP carcinoma (CPC). Though CPP and atypical CPP are generally benign and can be resolved by surgery, CPC is a particularly aggressive and little understood cancer with a poor survival rate and a tendency for recurrence and metastasis

Cytologic Features of Ventricular Tumors of the Central Nervous System: A Review with Emphasis on Diff-Quik Stained Smears.

BACKGROUND: Neoplasms from the ventricular system share a common location but have highly variable histogenesis. Many are slowly growing tumors that behave in a benign fashion. They can be classified as primary and secondary tumors. The most common primary tumors are ependymomas, subependymomas, subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, central neurocytomas, choroid plexus tumors, meningiomas, germinomas, pineal parenchymal tumors, papillary tumors of the pineal region, chordoid gliomas, rosette-forming glioneuronal tumors of the fourth ventricle, and craniopharyngiomas. Pilocytic astrocytomas, me

[Histologic classification and prevalence of tumors of the central nervous system in infants. Study of 100 excision samples].

In order to assess the epidemiological and histological distributions of brain tumors in infants under 2 years of age, 100 cases collected in the Neurosurgery Department of Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris during an 11 year period, were reviewed. Histopathological diagnoses were analyzed with special reference to age at the time of diagnosis, sex, topography and grading. Brain tumors were classified into 2 groups: under one year of age, and between 1 and 2 years of age. Certain neoplasms were reclassified after review of the slides. The male-to-female ratio was 1.09:1 for the first grou
