PURPOSE: The present study estimates the in vivo cyclic AMP (cAMP) level in the rabbit iris-ciliary body after topical treatment with epinephrine.
METHODS: Epinephrine 1% was applied unilaterally to pigmented rabbits. At selected time points between 10 min and 6 hr, a 2.5-mm diameter iris-ciliary body, in the treated eye, was irradiated with 2 J diode laser (2 W for 1 sec). PURPOSE: Evaluation of ocular tissue reactions to 670-nm diode laser.
METHODS: Twelve eyes of 12 pigmented rabbits were used. Transscleral contact laser delivery of a new 670-nm diode laser was used to produce retinal laser lesions in four rabbits; endolaser application of this laser produced photocoagulation of the retina in another four rabbits; and ciliary body lesions were produced by transscleral application of this laser in a third group of four rabbits. OBJECTIVE: To describe plateau iris syndrome associated with multiple neuroepithelial cysts of the pars plicata.
METHODS: Case reports of 3 patients with plateau iris syndrome who were found to have multiple bilateral ciliary body cysts on ultrasound biomicroscopic examination.
RESULTS: Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed classic features of plateau iris syndrome in each patient but also showed multiple neuroepithelial cysts of the ciliary body in each eye.
CONCLUSION: Plateau iris syndrome may be associated with multiple ciliary body cysts.

Transscleral coagulation of the ciliary body was performed by means of the continuous wave Neodymium: YAG laser in 39 eyes with various types of secondary glaucoma that was not controlled by medical therapy. In an eye with a proton beam-irradiated malignant melanoma of the ciliary body a second melanoma appeared episclerally on the opposite side of the globe. Microscopic examination did not show any connection to the primary tumor. Delta 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase extracted from the combined ciliary body and iris of bovine eyes was studied biochemically. The enzyme was purified 120-fold. The partially purified enzyme had broad optimum at pH 8.0. Apparent Km values for DL-delta 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate and NAD were 0.14 and 0.18 mM, respectively. The enzyme activity was strongly inhibited by GABA, proline, hydroxyproline, and glutamine.
