OBJECTIVES: We examined the spectrum of oral pathogens found in odontogenic abscesses and their susceptibility to penicillin as well as to amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, doxycycline, clindamycin and moxifloxacin. The in vitro results were compared with clinical observations.

The aim of this report is to describe a rare case of necrotizing pneumonia due to group B Streptococcus serotype III in a relatively young male adult (48 years old) suffering from diabetes. The organism was isolated from his pleural fluid and was only resistant to tetracycline. Neisseria mucosa is saprophytic human commensal but reported as a causative agent in a couple of urinary tract infections [UTI] in susceptible individuals. In the present case, a young girl with long standing neurological problems presented with bladder outlet obstruction and fever. Her urine culture yielded Neisseria mucosa which was susceptible to broad spectrum penicillins, aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, ciprofloxacin, and azithromycin.
