Trends in cannabis use disorder and treatment by race and ethnicity, 2002-2019.

AIMS/BACKGROUND: As cannabis use continues to increase in the United States, racialized stereotypes and structural barriers to care might lead to inequitable treatment uptake across racialized groups. A greater understanding of racial disparities in cannabis treatment uptake and perceived treatment need among people with cannabis use disorder (CUD) in community-based samples is needed. METHODS: Nationally representative data from the 2002-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (N=1,005,421) included community-based people ages 12+ First, we assessed trends in CUD (i.e., meeting 2+ DSM-5

Financial burden of tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment for patients in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Despite the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) given free of charge in many high-burden countries, the costs that patients face in the cascade of care remain a major concern. Here, we aimed to investigate the financial burden of TB diagnosis and treatment for people with TB in Ethiopia. METHOD: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Center for Clinical Trials from December 1 2022 to 31 June 2023 for articles reporting the cost of diagnosis and treatment for patients regardless of their age with all forms of TB in Et

Mobilizing social support networks to improve cancer screening: the COACH randomized controlled trial study design.

BACKGROUND: Disadvantaged populations face many barriers to cancer care, including limited support in navigating through the complexities of the healthcare system. Family members play an integral role in caring for patients and provide valuable care coordination; however, the effect of family navigators on adherence to cancer screening has not previously been evaluated. Training and evaluating trusted family members and other support persons may improve cancer outcomes for vulnerable patients. METHODS: Guided by principles of community based participatory research (CBPR), "Evaluating Coaches

First-time detection of treatable congenital heart disease - a study of school-aged children in the community of three regions in China.

BACKGROUND: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a leading cause of birth defect-related morbidity and mortality globally. While neonatal screening programs exist, the undiagnosed burden of treatable CHD among school-aged children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) like China remains sparse. This manuscript aimed to determine the epidemiology and identify factors associated with the First-Time Detection of Eligible-Treatment congenital heart disease (FTET-CHD) in a community-based sample of school children. METHODS: A large-scale cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2024 to June

Trends in place of death in Peru, 2017-2024: a nationwide analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The place of death is recognized as a proxy for the quality and equity of end-of-life care. Understanding where people die provides insights into health system performance, social inequalities, and the availability of palliative services. In Peru, evidence on this topic remains scarce, and national patterns and determinants have not been previously characterized. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study including all deaths registered in SINADEF from January 2017 to April 2024. Deaths were categorized as occurring at home, in a healthcare facility, or elsewhere. S

Current status of end-stage renal disease care in South Asia.

Of the 1.5 million people of South Asia, a large number live in extreme poverty in rural urban areas and have limited access to health care. End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a devastating medical, social, and economic problem. Lack of registries prevent an accurate assessment of the incidence or prevalence of ESRD, but a recent population-based study assessed the age-adjusted incidence at 232 cases per million population per year. ESRD treatment facilities are available only in major cities, requiring many patients to travel long distances to seek care. Many patients never come to medical att
