Human liver was used in investigations of mephenytoin p-hydroxylase, the enzyme presumably responsible for the genetic polymorphism in mephenytoin metabolism. A gas chromatographic assay method was developed to measure p-hydroxylation and N-demethylation which is the other major metabolic pathway.
