Recently, the cases of traumatic rupture of the diaphragm increased due to traffic accidents increasing. We experienced two cases of this type of trauma in short breathing after traffic accidents. INTRODUCTION: Understanding neuromotor control of the diaphragm muscle (DIAm) is the foundation for developing therapeutic approaches for functional recovery of ventilatory and non-ventilatory behaviors. Although the DIAm is the primary inspiratory pump, it plays a vital role in a wide variety of higher-force behaviors including airway clearance activities. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the quality of life before and after video-assisted thoracoscopic plication of relaxed dome of diaphragm.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 17 patients operated on for unilateral relaxation of diaphragm. We analyzed quality of life in preoperative period, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery using the SF-36 and EuroQ-5D-5L questionnaires. Diaphragm paralysis is a rare complication in pediatric heart surgery (0.28%-5.6%, depending on the procedure). When unilateral paralysis happens in adults, it is rarely symptomatic.
