During 18 months 100 children were submitted to a longitudinal study, in order to compare the efficacy of treatment with administration of intermittent rectal diazepam versus oral BID phenobarbital therapy, for prevention of febrile seizures. The group was divide in a randomized trial. Rectal diazepam was administered at dose os 0.5 mg/kg dose and the dose was repeated every eight hours during the period of fever. Diazepam was found to be as effective as oral phenobarbital in the prevention of new febrile seizures.

The development of tolerance to the protective effects of diazepam (4 mg/kg) against seizures induced by pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) were studied in 3 strains of mice. A randomized double blind comparison between diazepam 10 mg, and midazolam 15 mg as oral premedicants in diagnostic fiber optic bronchoscopy under local anesthesia was made. The subjective assessments by the patient, the observer and the bronchoscopist showed that midazolam 15 mg orally gives an at least comparable degree of sedation, relief of anxiety and patient's tolerance as diazepam 10 mg orally. Six patients with Nelson's syndrome were given sodium valproate with or without diazepam for 3 or 5 weeks. Initial high plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) concentrations were greatly reduced by treatment and returned to high levels when treatment was stopped. A sensitive fluorescence--TLC densitometric procedure was developed for the specific determination of diazepam (I) and its two metabolites, desmethyldiazepam (II) and oxazepam (III), in serum. After extraction from serum with benzene, the compounds were separated by TLC and converted with a sulfuric acid spray to greenish-yellow fluorescence spots with Rf values of 0.72, 0.43, and 0.17, respectively. To study the effectiveness of diazepam, a tranquilizer, in alleviating the problems resulting from the mixing and moving of weaned piglets from one piggery to another, two procedures, one of short-duration transport and the other of long-duration transport, are used in a double blind clinical trial.
