The prognosis of neonatal Ebstein's anomaly requiring early surgery is poor, especially with a circular shunt. We report a critically ill case managed with emergency two-stage Starnes surgery immediately after birth. We hypothesised that the three components of the Starnes procedure, right ventricle exclusion, atrial septal defect creation, and systemic-to-pulmonary shunt, could be organised and reconstructed in a consecutive two-stage strategy to control postoperative circulatory fluctuations.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart anomaly which poses significant perioperative challenges, particularly in pregnant patients undergoing caesarean section. The condition is marked by apical displacement of the tricuspid valve, causing right atrial enlargement, severe tricuspid regurgitation and an increased risk of arrhythmias and right-sided heart failure. We describe a case of a woman in her 20s with Ebstein's anomaly and severe tricuspid regurgitation who underwent an elective lower-segment caesarean section under epidural anaesthesia. Intraoperative management focused on maintain

Although survival has significantly improved in the last four decades, the diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly is still associated with a 20-fold increased risk of mortality, which generally drops after neonatal period and increases subtly thereafter. With increasing age of presentation, appropriate timing of intervention is challenged by a wide spectrum of disease and paucity of data on patient-tailored interventional strategies. The present review sought to shed light on the wide grey zone of post-neonatal Ebstein's manifestations, highlighting current gaps and achievements in knowledge for adequ

Although the ventricular septal defect (VSD) that coexists with the severe form of Ebstein's anomaly was thought to be beneficial for hemodynamics, it is unclear whether biventricular repair is always possible. Ebstein's anomaly with VSD was diagnosed at 4 days of age based on a heart murmur and mild cyanosis. The cardiothoracic ratio was 78% and the Celermajer index was 1.6 (grade 4), but the hemodynamics were stable and tricuspid valve regurgitation was less than mild. Pulmonary overcirculation developed, and therefore, biventricular repair was attempted at 4 months of age, consisting of VSD

UNLABELLED: In this case report, we describe a 23-year-old male with Ebstein's anomaly who experienced out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to commotio cordis following cliff diving. The patient previously underwent a Cone procedure and re-do reduction tricuspid valvuloplasty. Comprehensive investigations revealed no new ischemic events or structural abnormalities. He received an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator during an uneventful outpatient visit. This is the first reported case of commotio cordis in a patient with Ebstein's anomaly, suggesting a potential increased risk in individuals

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease. We present the case of a 47-year-old woman with history of Ebstein's anomaly who was referred to nuclear medicine department for a myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging during pre-anesthetic check-up. Myocardial SPECT perfusion images with (99mTc)-Sestamibi demonstrated medium sizes fixed perfusion defect in the mid and proximal infero-septal wall adjacent inferior wall. This is a cause of potential misinterpretation on myocardial SPECT perfusion imaging as this perfusion defect was due to fibrosis

A 58-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with progressively increasing breathlessness. She reported a history of bioprosthetic valve implantation for tricuspid valve replacement and direct closure of an atrial septal defect for Ebstein's anomaly, 31 years before presentation. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed prosthetic valve failure, an enlarged coronary sinus, and severe mitral regurgitation. Computed tomography revealed a giant coronary sinus with thrombosis and persistent left superior vena cava. She underwent successful mitral and tricuspid valve replacement; however, severe

Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital defect, which is rarely present in adults with arrhythmias and right heart failure with tricuspid regurgitation. The diagnosis is made by non-invasive cardiac imaging with transthoracic echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. However, mild and atypical anatomical variants require a more specific investigation to make the diagnosis and differentiate it from other pathologies which have a similar presentation, including Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC). We present the case of a 66-year-old gentleman with a history of recurre

We describe a change in our technique for plication of the atrialized right ventricle during a Cone repair. The plication was performed from the "Outside"-on a beating heart. Advantages expected from this change are-all major coronaries are better seen when full of blood and can be avoided, if a major vessel is compromised-electrocardiography changes should point it out immediately, there is a small but significant saving in terms of arrest time and if the plication needs to be taken down because of an adverse coronary event-this can be done without the need of another cardioplegia.

BACKGROUND: Forecasting the prognosis of a child when diagnosed with Ebstein's anomaly is difficult. We, therefore, studied which factors at the time of diagnosis are associated with death during childhood.
METHODS: All consecutive patients (0-18 years) diagnosed with Ebstein's anomaly in the Netherlands between 1980 and 2014 were included. Survival curves were obtained using the Kaplan-Meier method. By using the Cox proportional hazard model, we analysed the factors (at diagnosis) that were associated with death.
RESULTS: We included 176 patients. Thirty-one patients (18%) died before the a

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly (EA) has various spectrums in clinical and anatomic features. This study aimed to report the experience of two-dimensional intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (2D-ITEE) during the EA surgery and to analyze the characteristics of the tricuspid valve (TV) by comparing the data from 2D-ITEE with the results from the surgery.
METHODS: 2D-ITEE data of 164 patients with EA who were operated in the First Hospital of Tsinghua University between July 2004 and April 2014 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. 2D-ITEE was applied in all patients. Downward

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac malformation that may present in the neonatal period with life-threatening physiologic derangement, especially when it is associated with circular shunt. Urgent surgical intervention is critical for survival because of hemodynamic compromise. We review our experience with surgical management of neonates with Ebstein's anomaly associated with circular shunt and review the literature for similar reported cases. The underlying pathophysiology and different options of treatment are discussed.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease that presents with apical displacement of the septal and posterior leaflets of the tricuspid valve. It has a wide spectrum of clinical presentations and has been shown to manifest itself any time from birth to adulthood. Our patient is a 43-year-old male with a history of intravenous heroin abuse who presented to the emergency department with worsening shortness of breath and lower extremity edema. He denied any prior cardiac history. A transthoracic echo showed normal left ventricular function, but a large 2.2 × 2.1 cm echodensity on the se

Ebstein's anomaly is known for its varied presentations and exceptionally long survival in some cases. Here the authors describe a case of previously undiagnosed Ebstein's anomaly in a patient who presented with massive pericardial effusion. Over the next 6 months, the patient was hospitalised twice for pericardiocentesis. To the best of our knowledge, a case of Ebstein's anomaly with recurrent massive pericardial effusion has not been described previously.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: The association of univentricular heart with double inlet and Ebstein's "like" anomaly of the common atrioventricular valve is extremely rare.
METHODS: Two hearts with this association are described with the segmental sequential system which determine the atrial situs, the types of atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial connections and associated anomalies.
RESULTS: Both hearts had atrial situs solitus, and a univentricular heart with common atrioventricular valve, a foramen primum and double outlet ventricle with normal crossed great arteries. In the fiefirst h
