A competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (c-ELISA), an indirect ELISA (i-ELISA) and a dissociation-enhanced lanthanide fluorescence immunoassay (DELFIA) were developed to test for antibodies to Brucella suis in pig and wild boar sera. An anti-Brucella-LPS monoclonal antibody (MAb 4B5A) (c-ELISA and DELFIA) and an anti-swine IgG monoclonal antibody (MAb 10C2G5) (i-ELISA) were used for the three assays. The simultaneous determination of zonisamide, a new type of antiepileptic drug, and the typical antiepileptic drugs phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepine in human serum was developed using micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC) with a diode array detector. Rat liver microsomes (microsomal fraction) were isolated from vitamin A-deficient and -sufficient rats and analysed for membrane lipid characteristics. Membrane fluidity was found to be significantly decreased in microsomes from the vitamin A-deficient rats, but not in liposomes prepared from lipid extracts. Microsomes from vitamin A-deficient animals showed a significant decrease in C18:2, omega 6 and an increase in C22:5, omega 6 fatty acids.

BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE: Melanoma accounts for 3% of all skin cancers but causes 83% of skin cancer deaths. The first step in treatment of melanoma is the removal of the lesions, usually by surgical excision. Currently most lesions are removed without intraoperative margin control. Post-operative methods inspect 1-2% of the surgical margin and are prone to sampling errors. In-vitro generated human embryos have low implantation rates and high chromosomal abnormalities. Embryos are mostly selected on the basis of microscopic morphological examination.
