Traumatic Inferior dislocation of hip in adult is an extremely rare occurrence. We report a case of an inferior hip dislocation associated with an intertrochanteric fracture. Treatment consisted of an initial closed manipulative reduction of the dislocation with the aid of a Schanz screw inserted in a T handle universal chuck and using C-arm imaging. A dynamic hip screw was then used to fix the intertrochanteric fracture. At 2.5 years after the injury, the patient has symmetrical range of motion versus his contra lateral normal hip. Radiographs of the hip show normal anatomy without signs of a

Posteromedial dislocation of the elbow in children is an extremely rare injury. The current study describes four boys with posteromedial dislocation of the elbow associated with a displaced fracture of the lateral humeral condyle. The patients ranged in age from 6 to 12 years (average age, 9 years 6 months). Closed reduction of the elbow dislocation and open reduction of the lateral humeral condyle fracture with fixation by Kirschner wires by a lateral approach was done in each patient. This was followed by 4 weeks immobilization wearing a long-arm cast. There were three excellent results and

Bilateral locked posterior fracture dislocation of the shoulders is one of the least common injuries of the shoulder, and this injury has been suggested to be pathognomonic of seizures when diagnosed in the absence of trauma. The authors present a case of idiopathic bilateral locked posterior fracture dislocations of the shoulder, along with a review of the medical literature. The authors also present the "triple E syndrome," describing the possible etiologies of this injury: epilepsy (or any convulsive seizure), electrocution, or extreme trauma.

STUDY DESIGN: Case presentation.
OBJECTIVES: To review the diagnosis and treatment of rare anterior lumbosacral fracture dislocations.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: The severity of closed anterior and open and closed posterior lumbosacral dislocations has been documented; however, there have been no reports of open anterior lumbosacral dislocations in the literature. Two patients are reported who experienced acute open anterior lumbosacral fracture dislocations.
METHODS: Review of the patient history and physical examination, radiologic review, operative techniques, and a review of the litera…

Three cases of hamato-metacarpal fracture-dislocation with fracture of the shaft or base of the fourth metacarpal and dorsal dislocation of the fifth metacarpal are described. In one case this was associated with coronal fracture of the hamate. An oblique radiograph of the hand with the forearm pronated 15 degrees and 45 degrees provided a good view of the extent of the fourth and fifth carpometacarpal injury. Treatment with open reduction and internal fixation achieves good clinical results.

Fracture dislocations of the tibial plateau have associated pathology including ligament- and meniscus tears. They therefore require different treatment than split- or impression fractures. The operative and nonoperative management depends on the soft tissue injuries including ligament tears and depends also on the functional requirements of the patient. Surgical approach, operative time and protection of vascular supply of soft tissue and bony fragments are the main factors influencing postoperative complications and outcome. The different fracture dislocation types according to the Moore cla…

Fracture-dislocation of the hip is an infrequent injury in adolescence. In combination with transepiphyseal separation of the capital femoral epiphysis, the injury is rare and catastrophic. A review of orthopaedic literature shows varied recommendations as to treatment approaches. The most recent articles have suggested that open reduction through a posterior approach and internal fixation is the best way to treat this problem initially. Later reconstructive measures are usually required because this injury often leads to avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The patient and family should be

A case of ipsilateral fracture-dislocation of the hip, knee, and ankle is presented. The patient had no neurovascular compromise or postoperative complications. A review of the literature produced no previous reports of this combination of injuries.

Lesser toe dislocations are unusual injuries that are amenable to closed reduction in most cases. We present a case of an isolated lesser toe fracture-dislocation that required an open reduction due to soft tissue interposition.

A rare case of blocked reduction of the distal radio-ulnar joint in a Galeazzi fracture-dislocation is presented. In this case both the extensor carpi ulnaris and extensor digiti minimi tendons were displaced on either side of the ulnar head. After relocation of these tendons the distal radio-ulnar joint could be easily reduced.

A case translunate, transmetacarpal, scapho-radial fracture with perilunate dislocation occurred as a young man drove his motorcycle into the side of a car. Closed reduction was performed initially. Open reduction was performed with a screw in the lunate. Eighteen months later the screw was removed and after two and a half years x-rays revealed no signs of avascular necrosis or arthrosis. The patient fully recovered. This case stresses the necessity of open reduction in cases of complicated carpal fracture dislocations.

Sixteen patients with 17 transscaphoid perilunate fracture-dislocations were treated by open reduction and pin fixation. Open reduction was performed through a volar approach in only one wrist, a dorsal approach in nine wrists, and combined volar and dorsal approaches in seven wrists. Primary bone grafting was performed in four patients. The follow-up period was from five months to eleven years and two months, with an average of 2.69 years. Seven patients had median nerve injury and all recovered. Of the 17 wrists, the scaphoid fracture healed in 15. This injury should be treated by early open

Fracture dislocation at the base of the fifth metacarpal is a rare injury. Fewer than 25 cases have been published in the English-language literature. A force acting along the longitudinal axis of the fifth metacarpal causes a fracture dislocation at the base of the bone in a dorsal-ulnar direction, because of the anatomy of the joint and the mechanical properties of the bone and the intermetacarpal ligament. The mechanism of other types of injury to this joint, namely dorsal-radial or palmar-radial dislocation of the base of the fifth metacarpal is different. A case is presented which demonst…

Author demonstrates from the point of view of primary treatment of three most severe cases of complete fracture dislocation of spine since the existence of the National Institute of Traumatology. All of them have been young persons which fact greatly contributed to their survival after polytraumatisation. The alteration of spine consisted in all three cases of complete disruption and slide indicating severe shearing force. In the literature available this type of injury and its treatment is hardly commented upon on reason that those injured used to die almost immediately after the trauma. The …

A 41-year-old man incurred the unusual combination of subacromial posterior dislocation of the shoulder and ipsilateral humeral shaft fracture. The importance of inspection of joints proximal to long bone fractures cannot be overemphasized. The transscapular view is easily adapted to the diagnosis of this injury. When recognized early, closed reduction is the preferred treatment; open reduction, as in the present case, is reserved for chronic dislocation.

Monteggia fractures are characterized by a fracture of the ulna associated with radial head dislocation. T-condylar fractures of the humerus are intra-articular injuries that disrupt the distal humeral epiphysis. This report describes a rare case of a pediatric patient with an ipsilateral T-condylar humeral fracture and a Monteggia fracture-dislocation. A 10-year-old girl presented with elbow pain and deformity after falling while playing basketball. No open wounds or neurological deficits were observed, and the radial artery was palpable. The radiograph revealed a pediatric T-condylar humeral
