Extragingival pyogenic granuloma (PG) of the lower labial mucosa is rare during pregnancy, with only a few cases previously reported. This report describes the management of a PG on the lower labial mucosa in a 26-year-old patient at 18 weeks of gestation, representing the earliest reported gestational presentation requiring surgical intervention. The patient presented with a progressively enlarging mass and recurrent bleeding. Given these clinical indications and the lack of established safety data for non-surgical treatments during pregnancy, surgical excision was performed under local anest

We presented a case of PCOT that initially displayed clinical and histological features similar to pyogenic granuloma. Excisional biopsy and histological examination were performed to determine the definitive diagnosis. Therefore, it is argued that the clinical and incisional biopsy findings represent only alterations in the submitted tissue, which may be deceptive, and the final diagnosis may differ following surgical excision.

BACKGROUND: Conjunctival pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular tumor that typically occurs following an eye injury, trauma, after an eye surgery, or during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. The granulomas are commonly seen at the traumatic or the surgical wound site, where improper wound healing leads to the formation of the granuloma. However, in some cases, the cause of the granuloma remains unknown.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 47-year-old female presented to the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department at the Central Regional Referral Hospital in Gelephu, Bhutan, with a progressively enlarging, red

Botriomycoma, also called pyogenic granuloma, is a common benign skin lesion that usually forms as a result of skin irritation. Although it is considered benign, its potential appearance as a malignant tumor can cause great concern in patients and lead to demand for prompt treatment. This article reviews the current knowledge about this lesion, including its possible causes, clinical manifestations, and treatment options.

Congenital disseminated pyogenic granuloma (CDPG) is characterized by eruptive disseminated or localized lesions, which may arise spontaneously or secondary to predisposing factors. Even rarer is the occurrence of CDPG with numerous lesions affecting variable organs, which develop during the fetal period. This report describes the case of a 32-week-old fetus presenting with severe hydrocephalus and vascular intracranial and right lung masses on magnetic resonance imaging. Preterm labor occurred at the 32nd week due to preterm premature rupture of membranes, and the newborn died due to cardiac

Atypical Spitz tumors are one type of the Spitzoid melanocytic lesion, characterized by one or more atypical features, and often demonstrate indeterminate biological potential. Atypical Spitz tumors pose challenges in both clinical and pathological diagnoses. Herein, we report a case of a 1-year-old Japanese girl who presented with a rapidly enlarging lesion mimicking a pyogenic granuloma. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with an atypical Spitz tumor. The challenging clinical nature and diagnostic complexity of atypical Spitz tumors underscore their significance as crucial considerations i

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a vascular tumor originating from the skin and mucosal membranes. The most common sites include the oral and nasal cavities. It appears as a solitary erythematous lesion that bleeds easily. Various triggers were present in the literature such as pregnancy, drugs, and trauma. Trauma to the nose such as nose piercing was reported several times. However, there has been only one case study that has reported rhinoplasty as a potential trigger for the development of PG. Here, we report a case of recurrent PG following rhinoplasty in a 45-year old female.

Mild to severe epistaxis is common in pregnancy and often results from increased vascularity of the nasal mucosa and hormonal changes. Symptoms may occur in the absence of an obvious local cause or any systemic disorder; however, thorough otolaryngological (i.e., "ENT") evaluation is always warranted. Pyogenic granuloma or lobular capillary haemangioma is a benign fibrovascular proliferative tumour that is commonly found on the face, fingers, lips, and nasal mucosa. Pregnancy-induced pyogenic granuloma is not an uncommon entity and may result in torrential epistaxis if untreated. Managing a ca

BACKGROUND/AIM: Pyogenic granuloma (PG)-like nodular Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) has been previously demonstrated in several studies. However, to the best of our knowledge, no original study investigating the dermoscopic differential diagnosis of PG and KS exists in the relevant literature. In this study we aimed to identify dermoscopic findings providing useful clues to differential diagnosis between the two entities.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with histopathologically confirmed PG or nodular KS were included in the study. Demographic, clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings of

BACKGROUND: Tumor masquerading is a common phenomenon seen in clinical dermatology. While amelanotic melanoma is known to simulate pyogenic granuloma, a benign vascular tumour, the contrary has been reported exceptionally scarce.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 52-year-old woman with a slow-growing lesion on her right flank, which developed over 12 months. On examination, we observed a large exophytic, easily bleeding tumour on the right flank, that resembled amelanotic malignant melanoma. Histologic analysis after complete excision of the lesion confirmed a pyogenic granuloma of the lobular

Amelanotic melanomas (AMMs) account for a small proportion of all melanomas. They pose a risk of delayed diagnosis and, consequently, poor prognosis. AMMs may atypically present as a pyogenic granuloma-like lesion. This study sought to investigate the prevalence and clinical and histological features of AMM masquerading as pyogenic granuloma. The database of a tertiary medical center was screened for all patients pathologically diagnosed with melanoma in 2005-2016. Those with a suspected primary (i.e. pre-excision) clinical diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma were identified, and their demographic

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular lesion of the mucosa and skin. Recent studies of the epidemiology of PG are rare. We aimed to retrospectively analyze characteristics of PG cases in South Korea.
METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of 155 patients treated for PG between March 2005 and May 2014. The male-to-female ratio was 1:1.2 (70 males, 85 females). The mean age of patients was 35.3 years.
RESULTS: A high occurrence was observed in the first and third decades in males, and the fourth to fifth decades in females. There was a statistically significant difference

A case of phacomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV) in a 6-year-old girl with Sturge-Weber syndrome, pyogenic granuloma, and other complications is described. It is relatively rare that a complete form of Sturge-Weber syndrome was associated with PPV. A review of the literature on PPV, focusing on total number of reported cases and etiological speculations, is presented. To our knowledge, a total of 118 cases of PPV, including the present one, have been reported to date. Regardless of many speculations, the true etiology remains unknown. The average "density" of mast cells (MCs) per mm2 appearing

A clinical analysis of 304 cases of pyogenic granuloma (excluding pregnancy tumour) were obtained from the clinical evaluations submitted by clinicians while sending specimens for biopsy. The average age of the patients with pyogenic granuloma was 28.9 years with a peak age incidence in the second decade. More female patients were affected and the lesions present mainly in the Chinese. The majority of the lesions were ulcerated and pedunculated. The lesions had a mean diameter of 10.8 mm with a mean lesion duration of 6.0 months. The gingiva was the prevalent site for these lesions with a grea

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma is a common benign skin tumor. The multiple disseminated form of the disease is relatively rare.
METHODS: We examined three patients who developed giant pyogenic granuloma after burns from boiling milk. The patients were a 1.5-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, and a 35-year-old woman, All three patients had second-degree burns over their face and trunk.
RESULTS: In these patients, pyogenic granuloma had developed over the previously burned areas 2-3 weeks after exposure. The general condition of the patients remained good and all lesions involuted spontaneously.

Pyogenic granuloma, a rapidly developing, benign vascular nodule often arising in children at sites of trauma in the skin or mucous membrane, was treated successfully with flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser in three pediatric patients. Excellent cosmetic results were obtained. The authors suggest that the flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser be considered as yet another effective modality in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma.
