Distinct subtypes of trichotillomania (TTM)/chronic hair-pulling may exist. This study examined 88 hairstylists' awareness, exposure, and perceptions about treatment for people with trichotillomania (TTM). We investigated the influence of hairstylists' obtained educational level, years of experience, and understanding of TTM in relation to their willingness to refer clients for mental health treatment. Unwanted facial and body hair is a common problem, generating a high level of interest for treatment innovations. A wide range of modalities for the management of unwanted hair have been advocated over the years with varying degrees of clinical success. Most recently, lasers and light sources have been used to address this problem with improved clinical success rates in properly selected patients. The full range of temporary and permanent hair removal techniques will be outlined in this review of physical means of treating unwanted hair.

The hair loss in 8 cancer patients aged between 18 and 60 years on chemotherapy was studied. All had diffuse moderate alopecia within 1 month of starting treatment. Of the 8, 3 had only telogen hairs and 3 had high dystrophic hair count. Both anagen and telogen effluvium are implicated.

A total of 50 Iraqi male patients with frictional hair loss were studied. Their ages ranged from 27-55 years with a mean +/- SD of 40.60 +/- 7.82 years. Fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails are among the most common skin diseases. The increased incidence of these infections in recent years has been attributed to the large number of immunocompromised patients, life-style changes (greater attendance at gymnasiums, public baths, etc.), the use of chemotherapeutic agents, and the greater presence of elderly people in the general population. Superficial fungal infections were also the most frequent and troublesome dermatological condition occurring among US forces during the war in Vietnam.
